A new prop on BetOnline asks, “Who will be fired first?” featuring Florida’s head coach Billy Napier and Florida State’s Mike Norvell. Although Norvell wasn’t on yesterday’s list of likely fired coaches, I noted his potential inclusion. This morning, his name appeared on a new prop.
Let’s examine these odds to see if there’s value in betting on either coach to be fired first.
Mike Norvell is now +300 on @BetOnline_ag to be the first coach fired, trailing Florida’s Billy Napier. 🤔 pic.twitter.com/CRuOgl7aei

Is There Value Taking Norvell?
Florida head coach Billy Napier’s odds at -500 seem accurate given his tenure. The Gators have struggled under Napier, with an 11-15 record over the past three seasons and only one bowl appearance, which ended in a loss to Oregon State in the 2022 Las Vegas Bowl.
The 2024 season started poorly with a blowout loss to Miami at home. Florida still faces tough games against #14 Tennessee, #1 Georgia, #3 Texas, #18 LSU, and #6 Ole Miss. The Gators lack the talent to compete effectively with these top-ranked SEC teams.
In contrast, Florida State has also stumbled, starting the season 0-2 with losses to Georgia Tech in Dublin and Boston College at home. The significant investment in quarterback DJ Uiagalelei seems to be yielding little return so far. This follows an undefeated 2023 season where they felt they were unjustly left out of the College Football Playoff.
The Seminoles’ remaining schedule includes #25 Clemson at home, #12 Miami on the road, and #5 Notre Dame in South Bend. Florida State’s schedule is less demanding compared to Florida’s. Given the weaker ACC and the challenges facing Napier’s squad, Norvell should have a better chance to turn things around.
Overall, I would stay away from this prop. Napier is more likely to be the first to lose his job, and there’s no value in betting on -500. Norvell’s odds aren’t high enough to be compelling for me personally.
