Neither Mississippi State nor Auburn will be a factor in the SEC West race. But each team could do some serious spoiling before the end of the season. Mississippi State could spoil Ole Miss’s New Year’s Six Bowl hopes, while Auburn could keep Alabama out of the College Football Playoff if they win the Iron Bowl.
This week though, both teams are looking to bounce back from disappointing road losses. The Tigers are looking to rebound after losing to Texas A&M. We shall see if it was a bad loss or an indication of where they are as a program.
The Bulldogs had a tough loss at Arkansas in a game that was decided in the final seconds. They are passing the ball as you would expect, but an inability to get points hurts their chances of actually winning games.

You know what you are going to get with Mississippi State: a steady dose of passes all over the field. Quarterback Will Rogers is completing 75 percent of his passes, but despite that level of efficiency the Bulldogs often bog down closer to the goal line. They are only scoring 27 points per game even though they have one of the most prolific passing offenses in college football. On defense they are posting good numbers, which has helped them stay in all but one game this season.
Auburn scored just three points in their last game against Texas A&M. Needless to say it is hard to win with such an anemic offensive performance, but they were facing a strong Aggies defense. The running game just couldn’t get going, and QB Bo Nix is not near savvy enough to lead a team when everyone knows he has to throw the ball. Auburn's defense did okay last week and has all season. They are giving up just 20 points per game. They are able to get a rush without having to blitz, and that is key when facing a Mike Leach-coached team.
After a tough offensive game against a good Texas A&M defense, I am looking for this to be a bit of fresh air for the Tigers. They will have success moving the ball against Mississippi State. So will the Bulldogs, who will score in the 20s at least. With the Tigers scoring in the 30s to get the win at home, the over looks good. Nix should have some success and give Auburn the balance it needs.
