Kentucky’s only blemish this season was a road loss to Georgia, the number one team in college football. That was two weeks ago so let’s see how they respond getting up off of the mat.

They could not have any more different of an opponent than Mississippi State. The Bulldogs dominated last week against Vanderbilt and have road wins this season over North Carolina State and Texas A&M.

The odds are predicting a close game, and it will be interesting to seek how Kentucky’s physicality fares against the finesse of Mississippi State.

The Wildcats are one of the most physical teams in college football on both sides of the ball. On offense, they are super balanced but not very explosive. Their defense sets up their offense well, and they are good at forcing teams not named Georgia into making mistakes. Last year they dominated Mississippi State in a 24-2 win in Lexington. Their style of play travels well. They are definitely not as good as Georgia, but they fought them as well as any team has this season.

Mississippi State does a couple of things really well. They are fourth in the FBS throwing the ball and on defense, they are one of the nation’s leaders against the run. The latter especially bodes well because if they can make the Wildcats throw the ball they have a chance. This game could be a fun chess match between two good coaches in Mike Leach and Mark Stoops.

We have a tight spread here. It is a night game and the cowbells will be clanging in Starkville, but I like the Wildcats in this spot. They are just so sound in what they do and should be fully recovered from their loss to Georgia. It will feel like a breath of fresh air to not get pounded upon when they hit the field. Kentucky will create some mistakes and capitalize on them. After that, they just play their game and melt the seconds away.
