Although the 2022 NCAA college football season technically began last week, things really kick off in a few days with Week 1. Among the top first-week matchups is an Allstate Louisiana Kickoff Game between the Florida State Seminoles and LSU Tigers.
Florida State opened up the new campaign in Week 0 with a massive 47-7 victory over Duquesne. The Seminoles’ running backs were the stars of the show as Trey Benson, Lawrance Toafili and Treshaun Ward each ran for at least 101 yards and a touchdown apiece, while Ward found the end zone twice.
On the other hand, LSU looks to open its schedule by getting a win for first-year head coach Brian Kelly. The Tigers went an abysmal 6-7 last year before losing to Kanas State at the Texas Bowl, so a strong start is needed.
Here are BetOnline Sportsbook’s latest Florida State vs. LSU betting odds, as well as a prediction and best bet for the upcoming NCAAF tilt.

LSU Eyes Rare Win Against Florida State
While LSU’s football program has accomplished a lot over the years, the Tigers have had past troubles with the Seminoles. It’s been over 30 years since the two teams last met, however, it’s Florida State that’s won seven of its nine all-time head-to-head matchups against LSU.
In fact, Florida State has won four straight games against LSU, with the last one being a 27-16 victory way back in October 1991. Even though a lot has changed then, it still goes to show that the Seminoles shouldn’t be underestimated as the underdogs here.
Nevertheless, having Kelly’s experience behind the bench should help the Tigers bounce back from last year’s underperformance. The accomplished head coach has done just about everything there is to do in college football and even coached Notre Dame to a 63-9 record over the last four seasons.
On the other hand, the Tigers didn’t have a great run defense last year, giving up 149.8 rushing yards per game (No. 56). With how solid Florida State ran the ball last week, LSU defensive coordinator Matt House needs to limit FSU’s opportunities from the get-go.
One thing to take into account is that Florida State hasn’t played well against SEC teams lately, going 1-4 in its last five games against the conference. On the flip side, LSU is 5-0 in its last five matchups against ACC schools, making it interesting to see which trend continues this weekend.
While Florida State is capable of pulling off an upset, it’s important to highlight that the Seminoles have lost their last six games played in September. That’s the opposite success of LSU, which is 11-2 in its last 13 games in the month.
This matchup should wind up being a close one that can go either way. Even if LSU is favored here, don’t be surprised if Florida State sneaks out the victory.
Florida State vs. LSU Betting Trends
- Florida State is 0-6 straight up in its last six games played in September.
- LSU is 3-6 straight up in its last nine games.
- Florida State is 5-2 against the spread (ATS) in its last seven games.
- LSU is 4-1 ATS in its last five games played on Sunday.
- The total has hit the over in six of Florida State’s last eight Week 1 matchups.
- The total has hit the over in 11 of LSU’s last 13 Week 1 matchups.
Florida State vs. LSU Prediction and Picks
Florida State vs. LSU Prediction: Florida State 28, LSU 23
Florida State vs. LSU Best Bets: Florida State ML (Best Value: +128 at BetOnline) & Over 50.5 Points (Best Value: -110 at BetOnline)
Even though LSU might be better in the long run, I’m taking Florida State this week. The Seminoles already have a game under their belt and I could see them using that momentum to upset the Tigers in a close one.
Still, don’t be surprised if LSU wins — it’ll be a close one.
The most playable option here is taking Florida State on the moneyline at +128. Both teams also consistently hit the over in Week 1 matchups, so I’m expecting that trend to continue again on Sunday.
