#6 Ohio State vs #5 Notre Dame Preview
No. 6 Ohio State vs. No. 5 Notre Dame—a College Football National Championship preview your father has been dreaming of since he met your mother at a local dive bar back in ’92. These are two teams on absolute tears this season, each propelled by a key loss in the regular season. The Fighting Irish can thank Northern Illinois for beating them in South Bend in Week 2, while the Buckeyes owe their resurgence to Michigan’s victory on Rivalry Week. Since then, both have been unstoppable.
Texas ML (-142) VOID
ITS ALL ON OHIO STATE (-130) TO WIN IT ALL
— Colby Marchio (@C_Marchio2) January 11, 2025
I had my leans and bets ready for this game even before the matchup was finalized. On Thursday night, after Notre Dame beat Penn State, I locked in Ohio State to win it all at -130. The lookahead line had the Buckeyes as 9.5-point favorites over Notre Dame, and I did not want to take Ohio State to cover double digits in the title game. Knowing a dominant performance against Texas would push the number even higher, I grabbed the futures bet early. Outside of that Buckeyes future, I do not have many firm leans yet—there is still time to finalize a spread or total pick. However, if the line moves to Ohio State -10 or higher, I would consider taking Notre Dame. That many points against a legit defense feels steep for Ohio State’s offense.
That said, I do not think Notre Dame’s offense can keep pace with Ohio State, especially given the Buckeyes’ dominance on both sides of the ball. Notre Dame’s offensive line is in shambles, as highlighted in their win over Penn State. Riley Leonard had no time to throw, and while Penn State’s defensive line is elite, the Irish couldn’t establish any offensive rhythm. They were fortunate to face an even worse offense led by Drew Allar, who failed to connect with his receiving corps even once.
As of Monday, January 13th, I see no path for Notre Dame to sway my lean. No bias, no hatred—it’s just clear that they have too many issues, while Ohio State looks like the team of destiny.
