Clemson vs. Georgia Tech Week 1 Betting: Don’t Expect Yellow Jackets to Upset Tigers

Although the 2022 NCAA college football season technically began last week, things really kick off in a few days with Week 1. Among the top first-week matchups is a Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game between the No. 4 Clemson Tigers and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
The Tigers are coming off yet another successful season that saw them go 10-3 in Dabo Swinney’s 13th full season behind the bench. While Clemson didn’t end up competing for the ACC Championship, the school still ended the year on a high note, beating out Iowa State at the Cheez-It Bowl.
Meanwhile, Georgia Tech went an abysmal 3-9 last season, finishing second-last in the ACC’s Coastal Division. That was the Yellow Jackets’ third consecutive sub-.500 record under Geoff Collins, so only time will tell how much time he has left if he doesn’t start things on the right foot.
Here are BetOnline Sportsbook’s latest Clemson vs. Georgia Tech betting odds, as well as a prediction and best bet for the upcoming NCAAF tilt.

Clemson Shouldn’t Be Challenge by Georgia Tech
If BetOnline’s odds indicate anything, it’s that oddsmakers are expecting Clemson to blow Georgia Tech out of the water. In fact, the Tiger’s -2800 odds on the money equate to an implied probability of 96.6%, implying anything but a Clemson victory would be a shock.
Nevertheless, these two ACC rivals are hardly strangers. They’ve clashed in 85 matchups since 1902, resulting in 51 wins for Georgia Tech. While the Yellow Jackets have won more games overall, recent history has belonged to the Tigers.
Since 2010, Clemson has won 10 of its last 12 games against Georgia Tech — including each of the last seven since 2015. What’s even more impressive is that the Tigers have held the Yellow Jackets to just 13 points per game over that seven-game span.
Even though Clemson is capable of putting up a lot of points against its rival, the last meeting in 2021 was a low-scoring affair. The Tigers won that game, 14-8, but actually had fewer total yards than the Yellow Jackets.
Nevertheless, that last meeting looks more like an anomaly than anything. After all, Clemson doesn’t have any issues covering big spreads, going 5-1-1 ATS in its last seven games against Georgia Tech.
On top of that, the Yellow Jackets are 1-5 ATS in their last six games against ACC opponents.
At the end of the day, Clemson is the more talented team here and while things were close last year, I expect that Swinney’s squad will come out hot. With how good the Tigers’ defense was last year (15.8 PPG, No. 2), don’t expect much offense from Georgia Tech.
Clemson vs. Georgia Tech Betting Trends
- Clemson is 17-3 straight up in its last 20 games against ACC schools.
- Georgia Tech is 0-6 straight up in its last six games.
- Clemson is 7-2-1 against the spread (ATS) in its last 10 games against Georgia Tech.
- Georgia Tech is 5-10 ATS in its last 15 games played in September.
- The total has hit the over in four of Clemson’s last five games played on Monday.
- The total has hit the over in six of Georgia Tech’s last 10 games against Clemson.
Clemson vs. Georgia Tech Prediction and Picks
Clemson vs. Georgia Tech Prediction: Clemson 32, Georgia Tech 12
Clemson vs. Georgia Tech Best Bets: Georgia Tech+23.5 (Best Value: -110 at BetOnline) & Under 50.5 Points (Best Value: -105 at BetOnline)
There really isn’t much of a reason to doubt Clemson here. While the Tigers didn’t blow out the Yellow Jackets last year, I believe that was an exception to the rule. Clemson is just too get to get upset in Week 1.
Having said that, 23.5 points is a large spread to cover on the road and I think Clemson will come up short there. With the Tigers’ defense also likely keeping Georgia Tech at bay, back the under as well.
