See Picks & Statistics For The GameAfter playing three consecutive road games, Dequan Finn and the high-flying Toledo Rockets will be back in the friendly confines of the Glass Bowl tonight as they host Buffalo (7:30 pm ET, ESPN2).
This will be first home game for Toledo (7-1, 4-0 Mid-American Conference) since September 30. Since that win over Northern Illinois, the Rockets have visited and defeated UMass, Ball State, and Miami (OH).
Tonight, the reigning MAC champions will look to remain perfect in conference play this season with a victory over Buffalo (3-5, 3-1 MAC).
After starting this season with four consecutive losses, the Bulls are on the upswing. Can they make things interesting and give the Rockets a Halloween night fright? Buffalo vs Toledo odds don’t offer a lot of optimism in that outcome, but the Bulls are riding a three-game win streak against the Rockets.

Will Buffalo Be Able to Keep Finn From Firing on All Cylinders?
Perhaps the return of midweek MACtion, a staple of the latter half of the college football season, will see the high-scoring games that we are used to seeing in the conference.
But through the first several weeks of MAC play, those games have been a rare sight. To date, there have been 26 conference games played, and 50 or more combined points have scored in only nine.
Three of those nine games involve the two teams in this matchup. Buffalo defeated Central Michigan 37-13 on October 7, while Toledo beat Western Michigan 49-31 and Northern Illinois 35-33 at home in their first two conference games.
After piling up the yards and points against WMU (497 yards) and NIU (542 yards), the Rockets leaned on their defense in their wins at Ball State and Miami.

In their 13-6 win at Ball State, they held the Cardinals to just 205 yards but needed a late touchdown to leave Muncie with a win.
In their 21-17 win over Miami, they held the RedHawks to 299 yards. But after leading 21-3 at halftime, the Rockets failed to score in seven second-half drives, excluding their final “drive” in which they ran out the clock after forcing a game-saving turnover as Miami was driving inside the final two minutes.
Toledo’s struggles with putting points on the board against the Cardinals and RedHawks should give Buffalo some added hope about their chances to pull a major upset at the Glass Bowl, especially given how the Bulls have played on defense to this point in MAC play.
Defensive Statistics for Buffalo in Mid-American Conference Games
- at Akron (13-10 OT W): 253 total yards allowed (136 passing, 117 rushing), one turnover forced
- vs Central Michigan (37-13 W): 360 total yards allowed (280 passing, 80 rushing), four turnovers forced
- vs Bowling Green (24-14 L): 295 total yards allowed (77 passing, 218 rushing), three turnovers forced
- at Kent State (24-6 W): 164 total yards allowed (78 passing, 86 rushing), one turnover forced
To maximize their chances of staying in the game, Buffalo will need to corral Finn, one of the more dynamic quarterbacks in college football.
After entering this season with a career completion percentage of 58.5%, Finn has completed 63.3% of his passes through Toledo’s first eight games this season.
Also, he is averaging 5.8 yards per rushing attempt, and only eight quarterbacks in FBS have more rushing yards than Finn’s 472.
Season Statistics for Toledo QB Dequan Finn
- Passing: 119 of 188 (63.3%), 1425 yards, 14 TD, 5 INT
- Rushing: 82 attempts, 472 yards (5.8 yards per attempt), 5 TD
However, he completed only 55.6% (15 of 27) of his passes at Ball State and just 57.1% (16 of 28) at Miami. And after torching UMass for 172 yards in Toledo’s 41-24 win on October 7, he mustered only 59 yards total against Ball State (25 on six attempts) and Miami (34 on 14 attempts).
Last season, Finn accounted for 305 yards and three touchdowns at Buffalo. But he threw four interceptions, three of which came in the final quarter, as the Bulls erased a 27-10 deficit by outscoring the Rockets 24-0 in the fourth quarter.
Buffalo vs Toledo Prediction and Picks
Prediction: Toledo to win
Picks: Toledo -15 (-110 at Bovada) & Buffalo/Toledo over 50.5 (-105 at Bovada)
Common sense says that we’re in for a lower-scoring game, which might make it more likely that Buffalo is able to cover.
However, not only is this some Tuesday MACtion, but this is also some Halloween night MACtion. Let’s get weird and wild, folks.
