See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe stage is set for a historic showdown in Indianapolis as No. 1 Oregon faces No. 4 Penn State in the Big Ten Championship. The Ducks have made an immediate impact in their first season in the conference, while the Nittany Lions are looking to prove they can finally take down a top-five opponent. The stakes couldn’t be higher, and for this writer, the outcome feels inevitable—Oregon is built to dominate, while Penn State has everything to prove.

#4 Penn State vs #1 Oregon Bet
The inaugural Big Ten Championship featuring the newly expanded conference is set to be a showdown for the ages. No. 1 Oregon takes on No. 4 Penn State at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. This marks the Ducks’ first season in the Big Ten, a historic moment for the conference. While your father might remember when Penn State joined back in 1990, this matchup carries even more weight—especially for this writer, who’s convinced Penn State is the most fraudulent No. 4 seed ever. I’d love to be proven wrong.
If you know how I feel about Penn State and their head coach James Franklin, you already have a pretty good idea where this is heading. Biased? Never—just presenting the facts. If you’re new here, buckle up. Let’s dive in.
Why Trust Franklin?
There is no reason to trust Penn State in a big game, critical moment, or high-stakes situation under James Franklin’s leadership. Since taking the reins in 2014, Franklin’s record against elite teams is, to put it politely, abysmal. He is 1-14 against top-5 opponents, 3-18 against top-10 teams, and 13-27 against the top 25. Why, exactly, would anyone trust him to deliver against a disciplined, well-coached powerhouse like Oregon?
This season, Penn State has faced two ranked teams: then-No. 19 Illinois and then-No. 4 Ohio State. They went 1-1. Care to guess which one they beat? That’s right—Illinois, now barely clinging to relevance at No. 23 (and arguably overrated even at that spot). Meanwhile, Ohio State, now ranked No. 2 handed the Nittany Lions a 20-13 home loss on November 2. By contrast, Oregon beat both Illinois and Ohio State, home, by a combined 30 points. (Yes, they squeaked by Ohio State by one point, but it counts all the same.)
In their debut Big Ten season, the Ducks have obliterated every team in their path, proving they are more than worthy of their top spot in the country. That is why I’m all in on Oregon this weekend.
Full disclosure: I placed a moneyline bet on Oregon last Saturday afternoon before either team played their final regular-season game. The lookahead line was -148, and I paid the juice, making it my first two-unit play of the season. Now, with the spread at -3.5, I fully endorse taking the points. I believe Penn State is due for a reality check.
