Baylor opened the new season with a massive 69-10 victory over the Albany Great Danes. It was a well-rounded team effort led by quarterback Blake Shapen throwing for 214 yards and two touchdowns while running back Richard Reese rushed for 62 yards and found the end zone twice.
Meanwhile, BYU defeated the South Florida Bulls, 50-21, to start its new schedule. RB Christopher Burks was the start of the show, rushing the ball 13 times to the tune of 135 yards and a score.

Baylor vs. BYU Prediction and Picks
Baylor vs. BYU Prediction: Baylor 27, BYU 24
Baylor vs. BYU Best Bets: Baylor ML (Best Value: +136 at BetOnline) & Under 53.5 Points (Best Value: -108 at BetOnline)
This is a rare meeting between Baylor and BYU. The two schools have only clashed three times over the years, resulting in two victories for Baylor. Having said that, their most recent meeting was only last year.
The Bears and Cougars met in Week 7 of the 2021 NCAAF season, ending with a 38-24 victory for Baylor. The Bears won thanks to a relentless run game that put up a whopping 303 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground on 47 carries.
The rosters look a bit different this time around, but the fact remains that Baylor still loves to run the ball, proven by last week’s win. Even though BYU held South Florida to 107 total rushing yards, it’s clear that the Bears should prove to be a tougher test.
At the end of the day, the Cougars want to prove that they can belong at the top of college football and a strong showing against Baylor can help the program’s case. Unfortunately, it’ll be easier said than done.
This is a game that could turn into a shootout and if that’s the case, I like the Bears’ chances of winning a bit more. Baylor generated 11.6 yards per pass in Week 1, whereas BYU only averaged 8.2.
I also like Baylor’s defensive unit as a whole more than what BYU is working with. The Cougars’ D took their foot off the gas as the game against South Florida went on, meaning I think they have a lot to work on before earning more trust.
In what should be a close game, taking Baylor for the upset on the money is the most playable option here for a Cougars win. It should be a competitive battle as well, however, I’m advocating for the under on the total due to both schools’ recent trends.
