The Mountain West Conference is made up of two divisions, the Mountain and the West. Each division has 6 teams to make up a 12 team conference based in the western half of the United States.

Last season, San Diego State and Utah State played in the Mountain West Championship. Utah State won in blowout fashion by a score of 46-13. It was their first conference title since the conference played their first title game in 2013.

This year, Boise State and Fresno State are the division favorites. There has not been a repeat winner of the title since 2015 and 2016 when San Diego State completed the feat.

2022 Mountain West Football Predictions

There are 5 teams within the conference that have good chances at the division title. That means this will be one of the most competitive conferences throughout the regular season.

Boise State is always in the mix, and they will surely be the team to beat in the Mountain West this season. Their last title came 3 years ago in 2019, but they haven’t had a losing season since 1997. The Broncos’ move to the Mountain West in 2011 boosted their chances at higher level bowl games and conference titles.

Boise State’s schedule looks pretty tame this season, and they. should be on their way to another bowl game. Their toughest games all come at home against BYU, Utah State, and San Diego State.

Fresno State is the team to watch in the second place spot. They have good value in a bet due to their consistency over the past few seasons. The Bulldogs finished 2021 with a 10-3 record and a win in the New Mexico Bowl. They were even as high as 18th in the AP Polls last season.

Fresno goes on the road to play Boise State and USC this season, so their strength of schedule is higher than Boise State’s. However, within the conference, aside from the Boise State game, they should be favored in most games. Another 10+ win season could be on the horizon for the Bulldogs.

San Diego State has a chance to repeat as champions, but they will have a gauntlet of a schedule to maneuver through. They start with Arizona in Week 1 and follow it up with a road contest against the ranked Utah Utes in Week 3.

If San Diego State can manage to win those two games and do well in the conference, they should be ranked in the Top 25. Their strength of schedule is good enough to warrant them a spot with the big dogs. However, don’t get your hopes up quite yet, as it is a long season.

2022 Mountain West Football Title Prediction

Expect Boise State and Fresno State to make it out of their divisions this season. A game between these two at the end of the season would be must watch tv, as they would likely both be ranked somewhere in the Top 25.

The. Mountain West is gaining traction, much like the American Athletic Conference. It is only a matter of time before we see a team from this conference make a deep run that results in a close call for the committee.

Fresno State is the pick for the conference this season, as their schedule looks a bit easier to maneuver late in the season. Aside from the road test against Boise State, they should be able to run the table within the conference.
