Washington State vs Colorado Basketball Prediction & Picks: Will the Buffs Trample the Cougars in Boulder?

Despite being without some very important pieces of their squad, the Colorado Buffaloes emerged victorious in a challenging home game against Washington on Friday. Will they have a similar outcome this afternoon in their New Year’s Eve encounter against Washington State (2:00 pm ET, Pac-12 Network)?

To open Pac-12 play, the Buffaloes (10-2, 1-1 Pac-12) got a visit from the Huskies, who already own a win over Gonzaga thus far this season.

And even without Tristan da Silva and Cody Williams, Colorado pulled out a 73-69 win. All five starters scored in double figures and accounted for 71 of the Buffaloes’ 73 points, with K.J. Simpson (21 points, ten rebounds, and seven assists) and Eddie Lampkin Jr. (17 points, 12 rebounds) leading the way.

After seeing off one of the Washington schools, the Buffaloes will look for the home sweep as they take on the Cougars (9-3, 0-1 Pac-12).

Washington State closed out non-conference play by beating a talented Boise State team in Spokane, but they moved into Pac-12 play with a major thud, falling at Utah by 22 on Friday.

Washington State vs Colorado Prediction and Picks

At the moment, it remains unknown if da Silva and Williams will be available for today’s game. But even if they aren’t, the Buffaloes are showing that they have a group equipped to survive and thrive even when dealing with some personnel issues.

Colorado is 28th in adjusted defensive efficiency at KenPom, and if they can limit Jones and Rice, they will likely be on the way to a comfortable win. Jones and Rice combined for 35 points on 12 of 24 shooting against Boise State, but the duo was held to just 19 points on 7 of 30 shooting in the loss to Utah.

That said, even if Jones and Rice have a much better showing in Boulder, I still see the Buffaloes as the play here. Along with just being the better team, they are playing at home, where they are 8-0 this season and have won by double digit seven times.
