See Picks & Statistics For The GameWith one regular season game and next week’s Pac-12 Tournament remaining, the Utah Utes appear to be on the wrong side of the March Madness bubble. A win in their regular season finale at Oregon might not change that, but it would put them on the right path entering next week’s action at T-Mobile Arena. Read on for a Utah vs Oregon prediction and best bets.
Utah vs Oregon Game Information
- Matchup: Utah Utes (18-12 SU, 14-15 ATS, 16-13 O/U) vs Oregon Ducks (19-11 SU, 14-16 ATS, 18-12 O/U)
- Date: Saturday, March 9, 2024
- Time: 7:00 pm ET (4:00 pm local time)
- Broadcast: Pac-12 Networks
This is not the position that the Utes would have wanted to find themselves in, but being on the bubble is the price you pay for being horrible on the road.
Utah’s 92-85 loss at Oregon State on Thursday was their eighth in nine road games in Pac-12 play, while they finished 8-2 at home with losses to Arizona and Arizona State.
Still, even after losing to the Beavers, the Utes seemingly have a chance to end up in the field of 68 without needing the auto bid if the right things happen.
As per the most recent bracketology updates at ESPN and CBS Sports, the Utes are in the “First Four Out.” At ESPN, they are fourth on that line behind Providence, Colorado, and Iowa. At CBS Sports, they are the first team out, followed by Iowa, Villanova, and Pittsburgh.
One of the things that needs to happen is a win tonight, but they may well need two wins in the Pac-12 Tournament to beat out some of the other bubble boys, including the Buffaloes, who will be the #3 seed in Vegas.
This is also not the position that Oregon would have envisioned being in earlier this season, but while the Utes have a chance to capture an at-large bid, the Ducks will need to cut down the nets at T-Mobile Arena to land a spot in the field of 68.
However, with the Ducks on a skid as the regular season winds down, that looks like a rather unlikely prospect at the moment, especially with Arizona set to be on their side of the bracket next week.

Utah vs Oregon Prediction and Best Bets
Utah vs Oregon Betting Analysis and Prediction
It’s one thing to not be good on the road, but the Utes have been horrible on the road in a conference that has only two guaranteed NCAA Tournament teams.
Were it not for a last-second basket at UCLA three weeks ago, Utah would be staring at a winless road record. As it is, their 1-8 record includes giving up 79 or more points seven times, four losses by 19 points or more, and four losses to teams who are going to finish under .500 overall.
By comparison, the Utes gave up 79 or more points just four times in ten home games in conference play, had five wins by 22+ points, and suffered only one inglorious defeat. Of course, that one inglorious defeat was to Arizona State, which could have a hand in keeping Utah out of the NCAA Tournament, but on the whole, they have been excellent at home and awful on the road.
Some of that stink can be washed away with a win in Eugene, but how likely is it? Oregon is 6-3 at home in Pac-12 play, with the three losses coming to the three teams that will finish ahead of the Ducks in the standings, Arizona, Washington State, and Colorado. Most recently, they fell 79-75 to Colorado on Thursday, succumbing to a hot shooting night by the Buffaloes (55.2% from the field overall and 47.1% from three).
Utah has the weapons in their arsenal to put up points in this one. If they can, they will have a chance. Oregon is just 3-8 SU and 4-7 ATS this season when giving up 75 or more points. In Pac-12 play, they are just 2-5 SU and ATS when doing so, with the straight-up wins coming at Washington State (pre-hot streak for the Cougars) and at home against Washington.
Utah vs Oregon Best Bets
Utah/Oregon over 151.5 & Deivon Smith (Utah) over 14.5 points
I think the Utes can keep it close and even win, despite their road struggles. But for betting purposes, I’m not touching a side here.
When the Utes and Ducks met in Salt Lake City on January 24, Utah pulled out an 80-77 win behind 24 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists by Deivon Smith.
Up to that point, Smith had scored 15+ points just once in nine games. Starting with that game, he has scored 15+ points eight times in 12 games (and had a triple-double in two of the four games he didn’t).
