The college basketball schedule for New Year’s Day is very light, with only five games on the slate. Therefore, there’s not a lot to work with from a betting standpoint. But you can count on me to find some somewhere, and there are some options worth considering for this afternoon’s matchup between Texas A&M-Commerce and TCU (4:00 pm ET, Big 12/ESPN+).
The Horned Frogs (10-2) will be playing their final non-conference contest before jumping into Big 12 play with games at #2 Kansas and at home against #12 Oklahoma and #3 Houston.

That’s quite the gauntlet to navigate, but those are tomorrow’s problems to deal with. Today, TCU should have no issues with the Lions (6-6), who will start Southland Conference play on Saturday with a challenging home game against Will Wade and 11-2 McNeese State, who have won at VCU and Michigan this season.
The Lions have suffered 20+ point losses at Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Kentucky, and SMU this season, but they also own an impressive win at St. Joseph’s, who are 10-3 and won at Villanova in November.

Texas A&M-Commerce vs TCU Prediction and Picks
After not playing for a week and with Christmas and New Year’s Eve both on the calendar, there might be some festive period rust to shake off for TCU.
That said, anything less than a blowout win would be a major surprise.
Against the lower-rated teams on their schedule, the Horned Frogs have put up a lot of points while winning big. They beat Southern University, UT-Rio Grande Valley, Mississippi Valley State, and Houston Christian (another Southland member) by 30+ points, and they hit the century mark against Southern, Houston Christian, and Old Dominion.
Texas A&M-Commerce, meanwhile, lost by 32 to Texas A&M, 27 to Texas Tech, 20 to Kentucky, and 43 to SMU. And with the exception of the Kentucky game, in which the Wildcats started slow before rolling the rest of the way, the Lions trailed by a hefty margin at halftime.
Look for TCU to all but put this one to bed in the first half and for Coles to score in double figures for the first time since he had 17 against Georgetown on December 2.
His shots haven’t been falling much lately (5.4 PPG, 12 of 44 FG, and 1 of 11 3PT in his last five games), but he averages 9.3 shots per game, and given that he has done well against most of the cupcakes on TCU’s schedule, a decent volume should produce his best showing in some time.
Prediction: TCU to win
Picks: TCU first half -15.5 & JaKobe Coles over 9.5 points (Both lines at Bovada – Bet these lines and get a 75% WELCOME BONUS if your first deposit is via crypto)
