This week’s college basketball schedule is pretty unimpressive until things start to liven up Friday with UConn facing Gonzaga in Seattle, which is the precursor to a Saturday slate filled with several must-see matchups, led by a #1 vs #3 matchup in Indianapolis between Arizona and Purdue.
That doesn’t mean that there isn’t betting value to be found, and it also doesn’t mean that notable teams aren’t in action. Tonight, two ranked teams will take the court, as #12 Tennessee will host Georgia Southern, while in Durham, North Carolina, #21 Duke will square off with Hofstra (7:00 pm ET, ESPN2).
After falling at Arkansas and Georgia Tech in back-to-back games, Duke (6-3) suffered a major drop in the national rankings.

But the Blue Devils got back to winning ways last Saturday with an 80-56 win over Charlotte, which saw freshman Jared McCain lead the way with a career-best 21 points.
There wasn’t much of a challenge from the 49ers in Saturday’s win, but will they get more of a game from Hofstra? The Pride (6-3) saw a five-game win streak come to an end Saturday with a three-point loss at Saint Louis.

Hofstra vs Duke Prediction and Picks
Prediction: Duke to win
Picks: Hofstra/Duke over 144 (-105 at BetOnline), Hofstra/Duke first half over 68 (-110 at BetOnline) & Jeremy Roach over 14.5 points (-129 at BetOnline)
While it was only Charlotte, there was a lot to like about Duke’s win on Saturday. Kyle Filipowski had a rough game offensive, making only 2 of 10 shots and scoring only five points, but the rest of the team shot 57.9% (22 of 38) from the field, and the Blue Devils made 10 of 18 (55.9%) from three as a team.
Filipowski should have a more productive night tonight, but it won’t be a one-man show, even with Tyrese Proctor still sidelined due to an ankle injury suffered in the loss at Georgia Tech.
But Jeremy Roach, who scored 18 points against Charlotte, is on perhaps the best offensive run of his collegiate career, averaging 19.5 points per game while shooting 52.2% from the field and 61.5% from three in his last four games.
Hofstra lost leading scorer Aaron Estrada, who transferred to Alabama, from last year’s team, but they they have a highly productive duo in returnees Tyler Thomas (23.6 PPG, 4.9 RPG, 3.1 APG) and Darlinstone Dubar (17.7 PPG, 6.4 RPG), who has one of the best names in college basketball. Also, junior guard Jaquan Carlos (11.2 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 6.8 RPG) is one of the nation’s leaders in dropping dimes.
If Thomas, who is shooting 41.5% from three on 10.4 attempts per game, gets going early, Hofstra could very well make things interesting. In the end, I think they will at least do their part to help the over hit.
