See Picks & Statistics For The GameOne of the most anticipated matchups of the Round of 64 happens in Wichita, KS as the #11 Drake Bulldogs of the Missouri Valley Conference take on the #6 Missouri Tigers of the SEC. The Bulldogs won their conference tournament to punch their ticket led by first year head coach, Ben McCollum, and now they have a date with a university in their neighboring state.
These schools meet in Intrust Bank Arena, with a chance at facing (most likely) Texas Tech on Saturday. Drake was a very popular underdog pick on social media this week, but can the Tigers show them that “it just means more” in the SEC when it comes to basketball as well?

Will Drake Pull Off Upset Over Tigers?

Manayamu leads the Bulldogs in rebounds
Drake doesn’t lose often. They are just 30-3 this season, arguably losing three games they shouldn’t have. Led by former D-2 standout, Bennett Stirtz, the Bulldogs are ready for a Cinderella run in March. This is a very tough draw for Missouri, who has certainly struggled to slow down some electric offenses, relying on their shooting to win them games in the SEC.
But Drake is VERY good on offense. Despite being the slowest team in the nation, literally, dead last, Missouri will push the pace. Relying on their offense involves running back and forth to get more possessions for your scorers. I see this being the Tigers game plan, but it plays right into the Bulldogs hands. They play slow, but are incredibly efficient, and I see them putting up a fight in this ball game.

Like I said, Drake is dead last in pace, but Missouri will push the pace, giving them more possessions. I think Mizzou will end up covering, but the Bulldogs can keep up. Drake is Top 40 in eFG%, Top 12 in offensive rebounding and Top 6 in getting to the free throw line. On the defensive end, they are Top 10 at forcing turnovers, which could lead to some easy buckets.
Missouri’s defense isn’t that great, as they rank 298th in eFG%, 339th in offensive rebounds allowed, and 350th in FT Rate defense. This plays directly into the strengths of the Bulldogs, and remember, they will have more possessions than usual. Over their last 12 games, the Tigers defense has been atrocious. They’ve allowed their opponents to have an eFG% of 55+ in 8/12 games and 60+ in 4 of those 12. The defense simply sucks, especially right now.
Give me Drake to take advantage of the extra possessions and score plenty.
