Saturday brings what should be an exciting day of NCAA Tournament action, but there are a couple of intriguing NIT games to take in as well. The first of the two sees Dayton take on Chattanooga bright and early at McKenzie Arena in Chattanooga (11:30 am ET, ESPN2).

The winner of the matchup between the Flyers (23-10) and Mocs (25-9) will face George Mason or Bradley, who face off in today’s other NIT contest.
In this year’s NIT bracket, Dayton is a top seed, but they are not at home for the first two rounds. They visited Florida Atlantic in the first round because the First Four was taking place at UD Arena, and they have made the trek to Tennessee because UD Arena is hosting the championship games of Ohio’s high school boys’ basketball tournament.
In the first round, the Flyers soared past the Owls of FAU on Wednesday thanks to Javon Bennett’s career-high 30 points, while the Mocs moved on with a triple-overtime win at Middle Tennessee thanks to big games by Bash Wieland (31 points, seven rebounds) and Trey Bonham (27 points, 10 rebounds, six assists).

Dayton vs Chattanooga Prediction & Picks
Objectively, there’s a lot of allure in betting on the second round of the NIT. The 16 teams left are invested, even if they are disappointed in missing out on being in the March Madness bracket.
Both Dayton and Chattanooga came away with hard-fought road wins in the first round, which is a positive indication about how they will both approach this matchup.
A win today will give Dayton’s seniors, including leading scorers Nate Santos (14.2 PPG, 5.6 RPG, 42.2% 3PT) and Enoch Cheeks (13.2 PPG, 6.2 RPG), one more home game and a chance to potentially meet a conference rival—who beat them in Dayton in January—for a spot in the NIT semifinals.
The Flyers are 5-1 SU and ATS in their last six road games, with the only setback at Loyola Chicago on February 21. In that stretch, the only opposition not at a similar or superior level to Chattanooga is Fordham. So, there’s no hesitation in picking Dayton to win and cover here.
That said, the over is the most eye-catching option in this matchup. Neither team plays particularly fast, as Chattanooga ranks 258th in adjusted tempo and 169th in possession per game and Dayton ranks 219th in adjusted tempo and tied for 254th in possessions per game.
But the Flyers are 50th in adjusted offensive efficiency and the Mocs are only six spots behind, while Chattanooga ranks 26th in points per possession and Dayton ranks 58th. This indicates that both teams are decent at converting their possessions into points.
Combine this with where both teams rank in points allowed per possession—Dayton is 164th at 1.031, while Chattanooga is 223rd at 1.053—and you have the makings of a game that should see some scoring.
