Chattanooga vs Evansville Predictions
It’s time for some niche mid-major action in Evansville, Indiana, where the Purple Aces host the Chattanooga Mocs. Evansville is coming off two straight losses, while Chattanooga just suffered an 18-point home loss to Lipscomb. Both teams are looking to bounce back and get back in the win column.
In this matchup, we’re backing the team that just got blown out by nearly 20 points at home—Chattanooga should be fired up to face a struggling Purple Aces squad. Despite being more battle-tested, Evansville has only managed to compete against teams outside the top 200. Their three wins came against a non-D1 opponent, Green Bay (314th), and Campbell (306th). In six games against teams ranked 205th or better, they’ve lost by at least 11 points in five of those contests, with the lone close call being a 63-61 loss to Murray State (ranked 115th).
Now, Evansville faces a Chattanooga team ranked 190th, with a top-150 offense and the 32nd-best two-point percentage in the country. While the Mocs are heavily reliant on the three-pointer (ranked 33rd), Evansville has been weak defensively from beyond the arc, ranked 227th in three-point defense at home. Haslametrics also ranks Evansville as one of the least consistent teams in the nation, while Chattanooga sits comfortably in the top 100 for consistency.
The Purple Aces are also prone to sending opponents to the free-throw line, ranking 265th in free throw rate defense. Chattanooga, on the other hand, gets to the line fairly well (153rd in free throw rate offense) and shoots a solid percentage (73rd in free throw percentage). In a game that’s expected to be close, winning the free-throw battle will be key for the Mocs to secure the win.
