The Big 12 Conference Tournament starts Tuesday, March 12th at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri and what a wild conference tourney this is going to be.
TCU and Oklahoma play each other in what Joe Lunardi sees as a “win and in” situation for both teams, but either way they’ll face the Houston Cougars in the quarterfinals.
Kansas State probably needs two wins to go dancing, and that will entail upsetting #7 Texas and then #2 Iowa State. Are the Kitty Cats up to the task?
With 9-10 teams still fighting for a stab at the bracket, this tournament will be a thriller, just like every year.
Let’s take a look at the bracket.
Big 12 Conference Tournament Bracket
With an extended Big 12 tournament this year, we see some extra games on the slate with 14 total teams. In typical fashion, the Top 4 are in the Quarterfinals while everyone else must play to keep their season alive.
Let’s check out the odds and then find some dark horses.

Big 12 Conference Tournament Best Bets
This is Houston’s tournament to lose, but as such a big favorite with little motivation, I think the Cyclones are the team to look at in this tournament. Houston is going to be a 1 seed no matter what, even if they lose by 100 in their first game. It’s set in stone.
But everyone else can move up, and I like the Cyclones to have a favorable path to the final. Going up against Kansas State or Texas in the quarterfinals should be a piece of cake, leading to a semifinal against, most likely, Baylor.
During the Big 12 Tournament, the T-Mobile Center essentially become Hilton South, as Iowa State fans travel incredibly well to support their Cyclones.
Iowa State always seems to play well in the tournament, and with McCullar and Dickinson being out for the Jayhawks, I don’t see Kansas winning anything.
I think the winner of Iowa State/Baylor wins the Tournament with Houston or Texas Tech coming out of the top.
The Bears got the best of Iowa State in Waco squeaking out a 2 point victory, but I think this Iowa State team is very focused and will come ready to improve their resume and take home some hardware.
The Pick: Iowa State Cyclones (+125) Get these Odds and a Deposit Bonus @ Bovada
Big 12 Conference Tournament Dark Horse Picks
As far as Dark Horses go, I don’t see many in this conference. Unfortunately, my Jayhawks aren’t winning anything, especially with their two All-American’s resting for the Big Dance.
Texas Tech (+450)
I think the Red Raiders could get the best of BYU a second time in a quarterfinal matchup and then potentially face a sleeping Cougars team who is dreaming about the Natty.
With that in mind, the Red Raiders could push for a 5 or 6 seed in the Dance, and at +450 it’s worthy of a sprinkle in my opinion.
