After winning only 25 games over the past two seasons, Ole Miss is a win away from a 20-win season. But if the Rebels want to cap this turnaround with a ticket to the Big Dance, they will need a strong finish, starting tonight with an upset win over visiting Alabama (9:00 pm ET, ESPN2).
Ole Miss (19-8, 6-8 SEC) was 18-3 overall and 5-3 in the SEC entering February. But the Rebels have dropped five of six, and they are now on the wrong side of the March Madness bubble with many bracketologists.
Alabama may have the same record as Ole Miss, but the Crimson Tide (19-8, 10-4 SEC) don’t have the same worries to contend with. They had a rough day at Rupp Arena on Saturday in a 117-95 loss to Kentucky, but they are still tied for first place in the SEC with Tennessee (21-6, 11-3 SEC), who will be in Tuscaloosa on Saturday (8:00 pm ET, ESPN).

Alabama vs Ole Miss Prediction and Picks
Alabama vs Ole Miss Betting Analysis and Prediction
Of Alabama’s eight losses this season, the worst one (in terms of NET) is to Ohio State, who came in at #66 in today’s rankings.
The other seven are to Clemson (#23), Purdue (#2), Creighton (#13), Arizona (#4), Tennessee (#5), Auburn (#7), and Kentucky (#19).
An upset may well be on the horizon tonight, but based on what Alabama has done to teams slightly above, on, or below the Rebels’ level, the likelihood is rather low.
Indiana State? Gave up 102 points in a 22-point loss. Oregon? Gave up 99 points in an eight-point loss. LSU? Allowed 109 points twice in losing by 21 and 17. Texas A&M? Allowed 100 points in a 25-point loss.
Ole Miss has rather unfortunately picked the worst time of the year to either allow too many points when they manage to have some offensive success or fail to score enough when their defense comes to play.
In Saturday’s 72-59 home loss to South Carolina, Ole Miss shot only 33.3% (18 of 54) from the field, including just 18.8% (3 of 16) from three. They also missed 12 free throws, as they shot only 62.5% (20 of 32) from the line.
The Crimson Tide can occasionally make things harder on themselves than they should, and Saturday’s loss in Lexington was an example of what can happen when they go up against a team that can do what they do as well or better.
But Ole Miss isn’t on that level, and as much as the home crowd will be trying to will the Rebels to a much-needed win, they will go home disappointed.
Alabama vs Ole Miss Betting Picks
Alabama -5 and Alabama/Ole Miss over 166.5
While the Tide are on the road against a desperate team, I still like them to get the cover. Of their 11 SEC wins, only two have not been by at least five points.
Also, the over has hit in Alabama’s last six games and is 20-7 overall this season. That includes a 12-4 mark when the total has been 160 or higher.
