#8 Arizona vs Utah Prediction
Easily the best game on the slate, #8 Arizona heads to Utah to face a Utes squad that has yet to lose a game at home this season. The Wildcats are coming off a win over Stanford this past Sunday, while the Utes are coming off a big win over Colorado on Saturday.
The last time these two teams faced off was on January 6th; the Wildcats won by a whopping 19 points, covering the 12.5-point spread. The Utes will be looking to get their revenge Thursday night at the Jon M. Huntsman Center.
The Stank:
One of my favorite teams to fade in college basketball is the Arizona Wildcats. I have a personal vendetta after they screwed me on a first-half team total over. I needed one point, and they went scoreless in the final 4 minutes of the half.
Sigh, I digress.
I like Utah in this one. Their defense is stellar, one of the best in the PAC-12. They do everything right: block shots, don’t foul, and get after rebounds. At home this season, the Utes are 11th in adjusted defensive efficiency and 10th in eFG% defense, according to Bart Torvik.
Offensively, it’s the same deal; they move the ball around exceptionally well. They get to the glass and make their shot from the outside, top 55 in 2-point and 3-point offense. Utah’s biggest flaw is free throws, shooting 66.1% from the line at home this season. Undefeated at home this season, the Utes are 12-0 straight up. Their most notable wins came against BYU, Washington State, and Colorado.
Arizona on the road does not do it for me. They have a great offense, but their defense on the road falls off. The Wildcats are one of the worst teams at defending the three. Their eFG% defense is 42nd worst on the road, in a game where both teams are going to be running. I will gladly take the team that shows up on both ends.
Give me Utah.

Where to find more advanced analytics
If you are looking for advanced analytic websites for college basketball Bart Torvik and Haslametrics are my favorite two. They are free and very informative. Ken Pom is another great resource, but sadly you have to pay.
Remember, these are mostly used as a crutch. Do not let these be the end all be all to making wagers. They are not always right with their predictions. Use your plums, trust your gut, and remember you cannot win them all. If you have any questions my socials are below I am always free to discuss anything college hoops. Especially, if it is over a game that will have under 23 people in attendance.
