#25 Maryland vs Nebraska Best Bet
One of the most exciting games on this lovely Friday junior college basketball slate is being called the “game of the night,” and they are correct.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers host the Maryland Terrapins, who are coming off four straight wins over Illinois, Oregon, Washington, and Ohio State this past Sunday. Maryland also won on the road against Rutgers on Sunday. This will be Maryland’s furthest road trip since their loss to Oregon on January 5. Will travel be an issue for the Terrapins?
Maryland on the Road
According to Haslametrics, road games have been Maryland’s kryptonite, as they are ranked second-worst in away games this season. Meanwhile, Nebraska is ranked 168 spots ahead of them. On the road this season, Maryland is 2-5 against the spread and straight up. Their two wins came against a banged-up Illinois team and Indiana, a team that has impressed many this season (satire). Defensively, the Terrapins have struggled to force turnovers and defend down low, which is surprising considering the length and athleticism of this Maryland team.
Nebraska, like many Big Ten teams, thrives at home, and with one of the most passionate fan bases in the country, Pinnacle Bank Arena will be a madhouse this evening. The Cornhuskers boast a top 25 defense that excels at staying disciplined, ranking 44th in free throw rate defense. They defend the perimeter very well, and a stat that is particularly relevant for the home team is free throw percentage defense. The Cornhusker faithful get inside the opposing team’s head with ease, ranking 31st in that category. Offensively, Nebraska ranks in the top 75 in the country at home this season, getting to the line with ease, making their free throws, and being efficient on the inside.
I have not been high on this Maryland team this season, and they will need to prove themselves to me tonight on the road if they are the real deal. Until then, I am taking Nebraska on the moneyline.
Nebraska Trends:
– 13-2 straight up as a favorite
– 9-2 straight up at home as a favorite
– 12-3 after a win
– 5-1 with equal rest
