The SEC is the deepest conference in college basketball this year, with eight teams in the AP Top 25. While Auburn leads as the favorite, Texas A&M presents significant value as a strong contender. With odds above 10/1, the Aggies have great potential to make a deep tournament run and capture the title.

SEC Tournament Long Shot: The Aggies

The SEC Conference is a gauntlet—by far the most talented conference in college basketball this season. With eight teams in the AP Top 25, this will be one of the most exciting conference tournaments. But with so many talented teams, where is the value? Is it as simple as betting Auburn and calling it a day? Sure, but I would rather bet on Auburn game by game than settle for less than 2/1 odds on them to win it all.
I find myself really liking Texas A&M at +1400 on BetOnline. For full transparency, I locked them in at +3000 the morning of March 10 on another book, but I still endorse the Aggies as the sixth-best team in the SEC, according to Bart Torvik. The teams ahead of them? Missouri, Tennessee, Florida, Alabama, and Auburn.
I am completely out on Missouri. Since February 1, they are 5-6, and their most notable win is over Alabama while the Crimson Tide were coming off the Iron Bowl loss. Since then, Missouri has fallen off a cliff. Tennessee has started March 0-3 against the spread, and head coach Rick Barnes’ team is primed to fall off once again. I am out on the Vols!
The Aggies have maintained a top-50 offense, focusing on second-chance points and getting to the line at a high rate. Their defense ranks 16th in the country, with the 36th-best two-point defense and 91st in turnover defense. During their recent stretch, the Aggies have beaten Auburn, Missouri, and Georgia—the Bulldogs have also been sneaky good lately.
Texas A&M’s Path
They are long shots for a reason. Texas A&M will have to get past Tennessee and Auburn before reaching the championship round. If they make it that far, they will most likely face Florida, Alabama, Kentucky, or Missouri in the final. By that point, hopefully, the teams that like to run will be worn down.
At the end of the day, I am betting on value, and I see Texas A&M as the fourth-best team in this tournament. At odds greater than 10/1, I think they are well worth the sprinkle.
SEC Prediction: Texas A&M (+1400) on BetOnline
