The Minnesota Timberwolves look to take a commanding 2-0 second-round series lead when they take on the Denver Nuggets in Game 2 on Monday, May 6.

— Minnesota Timberwolves (@Timberwolves) May 6, 2024
The Timberwolves picked up a hard-fought 106-99 victory in Game 1. Try as they might, the Nuggets had no answer for Anthony Edwards, who paced the game with 43 points while shooting 58.6% from the floor and 42.9% from deep.
Does Minnesota have what it takes to win back-to-back games at Ball Arena? Or will Denver figure out a way to split the series before it’s too late?

Timberwolves vs Nuggets Game 2 Predictions & NBA Picks Today (5/6)
A more complete effort is needed if the Nuggets want to tie up this second-round series tonight. Michael Malone’s team was up 44-40 at halftime in Game 1 but couldn’t hold on as the Timberwolves outscored the home team 66-55 in the final two quarters to take the early advantage.
One of Denver’s main issues in the series opener was its performance down low. Not only were the Nuggets outrebounded 42-34, but they were also outscored 52-42 in the paint.
It also didn’t help that the Nuggets received little offensive production outside of Nikola Jokic. While the Serbian superstar managed to amass a team-high 32 points, the duo of Michael Porter Jr. and Jamal Murray only combined for 37 points on 12-for-27 shooting (44.4%).
The Timberwolves didn’t need any help outside of Edwards’ 43-point performance. Not only has he now scored at least 33 points in four of his last five games, but he also heads into Game 2 following back-to-back 40-point showcases. It’s clear that the former first overall selection has taken his game to the next level and it’s going to take a major effort from the Nuggets to slow him down.
Do the Nuggets have what it takes to slow down Anthony Edwards?
Following the Game 1 victory, the Timberwolves have improved to 8-2 ATS in their last 10 road game as well as 6-1 ATS in their last seven encounters with the Nuggets. Meanwhile, Denver has dropped to 1-4 ATS in its last five games on top of going 5-11 ATS in their last 16 games against a Northwest Division rival.
And while Minnesota is only 4-12 SU across its last 16 trips to Denver, it’s won two of its last three visits to Ball Arena.
The Timberwolves also have the benefit of boasting a healthy lineup, whereas the Nuggets could be without Jamal Murray, who’s questionable with a calf strain. Denver becomes an average team when Murray doesn’t play, highlighted by its 10-9 SU record in the last 19 games that he’s missed.
But while momentum is on the T-wolves’ side, I’m taking the Nuggets to win. The Nuggets have been fantastic at Ball Arena throughout the 2023-24 campaign and rarely lose consecutive outings at home. I see Denver putting forth a more complete effort as the series becomes even before it moves to Minneapolis.
Even if the Nuggets win, though, I’m taking the Timberwolves on the spread. Denver has been dreadful against the spread lately while Minnesota has covered in each of its last five outings. After already winning at Ball Arena once, I see the Timberwolves forcing a close game here, win or lose.

Best Timberwolves vs Nuggets NBA Game 2 Prop Bet (5/6)
After his strong performance in Game 1, I’m taking Anthony Edwards to record over 2.5 threes made (-124) for the best Timberwolves vs. Nuggets player prop tonight.
Edwards has played well from deep in the playoffs, averaging 3.4 threes made on 43.6% shooting through five games. He’s finished with the Over on this prop three times thus far, including when he drilled a trio of three-pointers in Game 1. In fact, the Over is also 5-4 in his last nine games against the Nuggets, who allowed the Timberwolves to shoot 11-for-27 (40.7%) from deep to open the series.
With the ability to take over a game at the drop of a dime, it’s clear that backing Edwards to hit the Over again is the way to go.
