While many will be immersed in a busy Saturday of college football this afternoon, there’s an eight-game NBA schedule to look forward to as well. And it will begin with Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and the Phoenix Suns visiting Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers in a high-profile matchup (1:00 pm ET, NBA League Pass).
The Suns started brightly to open the season as they impressively beat Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors at the Chase Center on opening night.
However, they enter this afternoon’s matchup with the Sixers having lost three of four games since, including consecutive games against Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs this week.

For the Sixers, things have gone the opposite way. They opened with a one-point road loss against Giannis Antetokounmpo, Damian Lillard, and the Milwaukee Bucks but have reeled off three straight wins.
But today’s showdown with the Suns is their toughest game since their opener in Milwaukee, as their previous three games were against the Toronto Raptors (away and home) and Portland Trail Blazers.
Will Phoenix drop a third straight road game? A number of notable relevant trends are not in their favor, and neither are the odds, as the 76ers are favored for the 41st time in 49 home games dating back to the start of last season.

Phoenix Suns vs Philadelphia 76ers Prediction and Best Bets
Prediction: 76ers to win
Best Bets: 76ers -3.5 (-115 at Bovada) & Philadelphia 76ers team total over 111.5 points (-115 at Bovada)
The Suns will get to where they should be eventually, especially once Bradley Beal, who has yet to make his debut with the team due to back issues, is able to suit up.
But they are not there at the moment, and falling off in the way that they did in the fourth quarter in both of their losses to the Spurs is not encouraging.
In Tuesday’s loss at the Footprint Center, they were up by 20 in the third quarter, 13 in the fourth quarter, and five with 1:03 left, only to throw the game away in the final seconds in rather inexplicable fashion.
In Thursday’s rematch, also in Phoenix, they did well to come back from down 27 in the first half to tie the game in the fourth. But they clearly expended all of their energy on that comeback, as they immediately gave up a 12-0 run.
Phoenix does at least have Booker back, as he returned from a three-game absence on Thursday and led the Suns in points (31), rebounds (nine), and assists (13).

However, a third straight loss appears to be the likeliest outcome here.
The makeup of the team has changed in this period, but since the start of last season, the Suns are 6-21 SU and 11-15-1 ATS as a road underdog. They are 1-1 SU and 2-0 ATS in that scenario this season, but this week’s performances are not at all inspiring, especially when the 76ers have covered in all four of their games thus far this season.
Also, the Sixers, for all of their failures, flaws, and frustrations, are one of the best teams in the business when it comes to getting the job done at home.
Since the start of last season, they are 30-10 SU (.750, tied for fourth in the NBA) and 24-15-1 ATS (.615) as a home favorite. That latter mark is first among teams who have been favored 30 or more times at home since the start of last season.
Best Player Props for Suns vs 76ers
Grayson Allen Over 10.5 Points (-124 at Bovada) & Over 2.5 Made Three-Pointers (+112 at Bovada)
After a rough start, Allen has emerged as a weapon for the Suns. In his first two games, he was 2 of 12 from the field, but in the last three games, he has made 17 of his 29 shots (58.6%), including 12 of 19 (63.2%) from three.
- October 28 vs Jazz: 17 points (6-10 FG, 3-7 3PT, 2-2 FT), four rebounds, three assists
- October 31 vs Spurs: 19 points (5-9 FG, 5-7 3PT, 4-4 FT), seven rebounds, three assists
- November 2 vs Spurs: 16 points (6-10 FG, 4-5 3PT), three rebounds, four assists
Through four games, opponents have connected on 37.2% from three against the Sixers, which puts them in the bottom half of the league in that category.
With other scoring options on the floor drawing attention, Allen should be able to get some good looks, and I like his chances to continue his run of individual success, even if the Suns fall yet again.
