The 2023-24 NBA season continues on Thursday, Oct. 26 with two exciting matchups on TNT. The Phoenix Suns are in action in the second matchup of the night as they pay a visit to the Los Angeles Lakers at crypto.com Arena at 10 p.m. ET.
The Suns opened up the new campaign with a massive 108-104 win over the Golden State Warriors, led by Devin Booker’s game-high 32 points. Meanwhile, the Lakers couldn’t get the job done against the NBA Champion Denver Nuggets, losing 119-107.
BetOnline sees both of these teams as championship threats this season. Phoenix currently holds +650 odds (No. 5) odds to win the 2023-24 NBA Finals while Los Angeles is right behind at +950 (No. 6).
Without further adieu, let’s jump into this Suns vs. Lakers betting preview, which includes the latest NBA odds, a prediction, and the best bets to make tonight.

Suns vs Lakers Prediction & Pick (Oct. 26)
The Suns played like a well-oiled machine in their season opener against the Warriors. What’s even more impressive is that they snagged the victory with Kevin Durant only scoring 18 points.
The addition of Jusuf Nurkic as well as Josh Okogie stepping up into a bigger role meant Durant didn’t need to do as much. Nurkic was a steady paint presence throughout the night, recording 14 points on 62.5% shooting with 14 rebounds, too. Meanwhile, Okogie tallied 17 points while shooting 77.8% from the field across 32 minutes.
What’s also impressive was the Suns’ defensive performance. They held the Warriors — who averaged the third-most points in 2022-23 — to 104 points on .356/.233/.786 shooting splits with 11 turnovers.
The Lakers can’t afford to play as they did in Game 1 if they want to avoid a similar fate to the Warriors. Los Angeles couldn’t consistently hit its shots against Denver, shooting 45.6% from the field and 34.5% from the three-point line.
Anthony Davis’ poor performance exemplified the Lakers’ scoring struggles. After scoring 17 points in the second half, the veteran big man failed to score a single point in the final two quarters, going 0-for-6 from the field in the process.
Much to his dismay, Davis hasn’t had a ton of recent offensive success against the Suns. In his last seven games against Phoenix, he’s only averaging 18.1 PPG on 46.7% shooting while missing on all seven of his three-point attempts during that stretch.
If Davis continues to play like that, the Lakers are going to struggle to win in the bloodbath known as the Western Conference.
With LeBron James being in a more limited role shaking up the team’s game plan, I can’t back the Lakers until they start to produce results. The Suns, meanwhile, looked good against the Warriors and will only get more dangerous once Durant starts to roll.
Even if the Lakers manage to win at home, a six-point spread is too big given the talent that the Suns possess. Besides, Los Angeles failed to cover the spread in eight of its 11 previous meetings with Phoenix.
Suns vs Lakers Prediction: Suns 114, Lakers 111
Best Bet: Suns +6 (-108 on BetOnline)
Suns vs Lakers Best Player Prop
Even though he had a poor season opener, I’m looking at Anthony Davis to bounce back tonight. That’s why I’m taking him to score over 22.5 points as my best Suns vs. Lakers player prop.
After all, Davis averaged 26.8 PPG in games following an outing where he scored fewer than 20 points. In fact, he finished with more than 22.5 points on 16 of those occasions — including in each of the last six.
Considering how he’s also averaging 24.4 PPG in 16 career encounters with Nurkic, I see Davis getting back on track with a strong offensive performance.
Bet: Anthony Davis o22.5 Points (-115 on Bovada)
