See Picks & Statistics For The GameAfter the Philadelphia 76ers took a 3-0 lead over the Toronto Raptors, it seemed like the series was all but a wrap.
But here we are, with the series back in Toronto for a Game 6 and with the Sixers under far more pressure than the Raptors are at this point.
With Fred VanVleet (hip) unavailable for Monday’s Game 5 in Philadelphia, where the Sixers had been dominant in Game 1 and Game 2, it wouldn’t have been surprising to see the Raptors get brushed aside with ease. But it was the visitors on the giving end, not the receiving end, controlling the game from the outset on the way to a 103-88 win.
No team in NBA history has successfully overcome a 3-0 deficit in a playoff series, but the Raptors are a win from giving themselves a chance to make history. Will the 76ers pull it together and avoid a Game 7?

Will the NBA Scoring Champion Come to the Sixers’ Rescue in Game 6?
After a poor shooting performance in Game 1, NBA scoring champion Joel Embiid had two big games to lead the 76ers to a 3-0 lead. In Game 2, he had 31 points in a 112-97 win, and in Game 3, he had 33 points and the game-winning three with 0.7 seconds left in overtime.
But Embiid, who averaged 30.6 points per game in the regular season, has been kept fairly quiet in the last two games as the Raptors have gotten back into the series. In Game 4, he had 21 points on 7 of 16 shooting in 39 minutes, and in Game 5, he had only 20 points on 7 of 15 shooting in 40 minutes.
He did notch his fourth double-double of the series in Monday’s loss, but 20 points was his second-lowest scoring output of the calendar year. On February 15, he had only 19 points in a 48-point home loss against the Boston Celtics.
However, the most recent example of Embiid having back-to-back substandard performances indicates provides some optimism that he will break out in a big way in Game 6.
- vs. Cleveland (March 4): 22 points, 7-14 FG
- at Miami (March 5): 22 points, 4-15 FG
- vs. Chicago (March 7): 43 points, 15-27 FG
Of course, it will help Embiid and the 76ers both if James Harden, Tyrese Maxey, and Tobias Harris can all contribute. All three did not shoot well at all in Game 5, while Harden and Maxey were poor in Game 4.
Supporting Cast Stats in Games 4 and 5 for the Sixers
Game 4
- James Harden: 22 points, 5-17 FG, 2-8 3PT
- Tobias Harris: 15 points, 7-12 FG, 1-4 3PT
- Tyrese Maxey: 11 points, 4-12 FG, 1-3 3PT
Game 5
- Harden: 15 points, 4-11 FG, 2-6 3PT
- Harris: 16 points, 6-16 FG, 2-7 3PT
- Maxey: 12 points, 5-14 FG, 0-3 3PT
Maxey and Harris have dropped off after coming up big in both wins in Philadelphia, while Harden has had only one decent shooting game in the series thus far (Game 3, in which he made 7 of 13 from the field). Even if the Sixers do manage to close out this series, investing in their NBA championship odds is asking a bit much with those struggles in mind.
76ers vs. Raptors Game 6 Prediction and Best Bets
Prediction: 76ers 112, Raptors 106
Best Bets: 76ers -1.5 (-110 at Bovada Sportsbook & BetUS) and OVER 209.5 (-110 at BetOnline and BetUS)
If you are a believer in momentum, the Raptors have all of it with them, and they will have a home crowd behind them tonight as they look to force a Game 7.
But they are still shorthanded, and while they navigated the last two games with great team effort and a strong defensive effort against the Sixers, it’s asking a lot for them to do it a third straight time, even at home.
You never know how a team is going to respond when they are under pressure, and the Sixers are under much, much more of it than the Raptors are. Along with trying to avoid making some unenviable history, the 76ers are looking to shed last season’s playoff collapse and the history that has followed Doc Rivers from Boston, to Los Angeles, to Philadelphia.
But as Embiid did when his team needed him in Game 3, look for him to lead the way tonight to send the Sixers to the second round.
Best Prop Pick for 76ers vs. Raptors Game 6
- Joel Embiid OVER 27.5 (-105 at Bovada Sportsbook)
One positive from Embiid’s performances in Games 4 and 5 is that this total is lower than it would be had he put up better numbers in those two games. This presents a great value opportunity to cash in on tonight.
It remains to be seen if Embiid will get the number of trips to the stripe that he is accustomed to, but if he has a more characteristic night from the field, he won’t need frequent trips to the line for this to hit.
