If the Warriors can maintain this positive momentum through the eventual return of Klay Thompson, could they make a run back to the NBA Finals? Meanwhile, the Grizzlies are learning that a West Coast trip so early in the season is a tough way to get off to a good start. They have lost their last two games of their stretch out west, falling to the Lakers and Blazers.

This is a tough spot for the Grizzlies. They lost last night at Portland as that team finally woke up. This is already their second back-to-back of the season. In the first one, they lost to the Lakers on Sunday after a Saturday win over the Clippers.

Ja Morant has been superb so far this season, shooting it really well and averaging 3o points per game. The ascension they thought they were getting from forward Jaren Jackson Jr. hasn’t been there though. He is fourth on the team in scoring at 13 points per game and has the same rebounding numbers as Morant. I get that his skills are tantalizing, but the production has to match at some point.

The Warriors are playing winning basketball. I am leading with that because they are 4-0 even though nothing stands out about them statistically. Steph Curry is off to a good start but is averaging fewer points than he did a season ago, and so is forward Andrew Wiggins. Golden State is not dominating, but this experienced group knows what it takes to win, and they have already handled both L.A. teams before adding wins at Sacramento and Oklahoma City. It is tough to fade them against Memphis.

The Warriors are just 2-2 ATS while Memphis is 3-1. Playing at home I am expecting a game that can be close for a while until the Warriors make their surge. End game scenarios may make this one a little tight on that number even though the outcome will never really be in doubt. Look for another big game from Morant in a losing effort.

Prop Watch: Ja Morant Over 26.5 Points (-102)

Morant has been scoring well and will need to continue tonight for the Grizzlies to compete. Seeing Steph Curry fill it up always encourages other guards to try and match, so Morant should have plenty of shots to work with. On a sluggish night for the team, he will stand out.
