The New York Knicks (33-18) are looking to avenge last month’s loss to the Dallas Mavericks (28-23) when the two teams collide at Madison Square Garden on Thursday, Feb. 8. As usual, there are a ton of betting opportunities in store for any hungry NBA bettors.
The Mavericks hope to win a third straight outing Kyrie Irving’s 36-point effort led to Tuesday’s 119-107 win over the Brooklyn Nets. Meanwhile, the Knicks kept growing their momentum with a 123-113 victory against the Memphis Grizzlies two nights ago as Donte DiVincenzo and Jalen Brunson combined for 59 points.
When it comes to going on a championship run this season, New York owns the eighth-best 2023-24 NBA Finals odds (+2500) while Dallas sits 13th at +4500, per Bovada’s futures markets.
Nevertheless, the NBA Finals aren’t for a few more months, so let’s focus on tonight by diving into this Mavericks vs. Knicks betting preview.

Mavericks vs Knicks Prediction & NBA Pick Today (2/8): Knicks Riddled by Injuries
As mentioned earlier, these teams collided just over a month ago at American Airlines Center. Despite not having Luka Doncic that night, the Mavericks emerged with a 128-124 victory that night as Kyrie Irving scored a game-high 44 points in a contest where the Knicks didn’t even lead for a second.
Following that loss, the Knicks have now lost three straight games against the Mavericks, falling by an average of 10 points. It’ll be interesting to see how they perform tonight as 4-point underdogs. New York is 8-11 SU/8-9-2 ATS as the underdog this season, whereas Dallas is 20-8 SU/17-11 ATS as the favorite.
Even though it’s the underdog, New York has some positive things going on. The Knicks’ 84.2% winning percentage (16-3 SU) since Jan. 1 ranks second-best in the NBA. For comparison, the Mavericks are 9-9 SU since the calendar turned to 2024.
Speaking of which, Dallas hasn’t been all that consistent lately. Yes, the Mavericks are coming off back-to-back wins over the 76ers and Nets, however, they’re still only 4-6 SU in their last 10 games.
Do the Mavericks have what it takes to stop a surging Knicks team?
Another obstacle in the visitors’ way is the Madison Square Garden environment as the Knicks have been terrific at home this season — especially lately. New York has won eight of its last nine home games, holding those opponents to a 103.3 PPG while outscoring them by an average of 12.2 points.
Meanwhile, the Mavericks have played to mixed results away from home, going 5-6 SU with a minus-8.3 average scoring margin in their last 11 road games.
It’s going to be interesting to see how injuries play a factor in tonight’s meeting. Dereck Lively II (nose) and Dante Exum (knee) have been ruled out by the Mavericks while Doncic (nose/probable), Kyrie Irving (thumb/probable), and Maxi Kleber (toe/questionable) are all dealing with injuries, too.
As for the Knicks, their injury list is lengthy. OG Anunoby (elbow), Jalen Brunson (ankle), Mitchell Robinson (ankle), and Julius Randle (shoulder) are all sitting out tonight while Jericho Sims (illness) and Quentin Grimes (knee) might not play either.
The Knicks will be shorthanded tonight as Jalen Brunson and other stars have already been ruled out.
If the Knicks were full strength, I’d love them at home. But they aren’t, so I’m taking the Mavericks. Doncic & Co. have momentum following back-to-back wins and already beat the Knicks less than a month ago. I just can’t see New York having a legitimate shot at a victory unless it gets career performances from role players.
The Mavs haven’t fared well against the spread lately, though, which is why I like the Under for the best bet. These teams are used to low-scoring affairs, proven by the Under being 5-1 in Dallas’ last six games as well as 11-2 in New York’s previous 13.
Furthermore, the Under is 12-4 across the last 16 Knicks-Mavericks matchups and 7-0 in their last seven collisions at Madison Square Garden. Don’t expect a ton of points tonight — especially with how many key players are sidelined with injuries.

Best Mavericks vs Knicks NBA Prop Bet (2/8)
There are a lot of great Mavericks vs. Knicks props available tonight, but I like the Over on Kyrie Irving’s 27.5-point total the most.
Irving has been playing some of his best basketball of the season lately. The eight-time NBA All-Star is averaging 31.2 points on .490/.466/.911 splits over his last nine games, finishing with more than 27.5 points on six of those occasions. In fact, he just recorded 36 points on 62.5% shooting against the Nets two nights ago.
Irving also enjoys playing against the Knicks, averaging 34.8 PPG in his last five encounters with the franchise. Considering how he racked up 44 points against them last month, taking the Over is a no-brainer.
