Lakers vs Warriors NBA Christmas Predictions & Picks (12/25)
It’s hard to believe that Christmas Day will mark just the first Lakers vs. Warriors matchup of the 2024-25 NBA season. The Pacific Division rivals collided four times last season, resulting in three victories for the Warriors, leaving time to tell if they can pick up from where they left off.
Having said that, winning has been tough for Steve Kerr’s team as of late. The Warriors are an abysmal 3-10 SU across their last 13 coming off of Monday’s 111-105 loss to the Indiana Pacers. The loss at Chase Center dropped Golden State’s record to 2-5 SU in its last seven home games, a stretch where it was outscored by an average of 4.4 points per game.
The Lakers, on the other hand, saw their three-game win streak end with a 117-114 loss to the Detroit Pistons on Monday night. Despite holding a lead as big as 10 points, Los Angeles couldn’t hold on for the win as it was outscored 55-50 by Detroit in the second half.
If the Lakers want to pull off the Christmas Day upset, they’ll need a complete effort against the Warriors. That could be easier said than done, though, seeing as how Los Angeles is only 2-8 SU as the road underdog this season whereas Golden State is 5-4 SU as the home favorite.
The Lakers have been inconsistent on the road to begin the 2024-25 NBA season.
Offensively, the Warriors have a slight edge as they generate 112.8 points per game (12th) compared to the Lakers’ 111.2 PPG clip (20th). Golden State also averages more threes made (15.3 vs. 11.6) on a higher success rate (37.1% vs. 34.8%), however, it’s Los Angeles that has the advantage regarding field-goal percentage (47.1% vs. 45.0%) and points in the paint (49.6 vs. 46.7).
The Warriors are also the third-best rebounding team this season while the Lakers currently rank fourth-worst. Golden State has also been better on the defensive side of the ball this season, surrendering only 110.8 PPG (12th) as Los Angeles allows 113.8 PPG (18th).
Another thing the Lakers have going against them is their injury situation. They’ll continue to be without Jaxson Hayes (ankle), Christian Wood (knee), and Jalen Hood-Schifino (hamstring) on Christmas while D’Angelo Russell’s status is up in the air after finishing Monday’s loss to the Pistons with a hand injury.
Meanwhile, the Warriors are nearly completely healthy. Their only injury designation at the moment is Gary Payton II, who’s questionable with a calf ailment.
The Warriors are in good health ahead of Christmas Day.
Even though the odds are against them, I’m taking the Lakers to pull off the upset. If they can effectively use their size down low, the likes of LeBron James and Anthony Davis could be too much for the Warriors to handle. Golden State is playing too inconsistently for my liking lately and their lack of recent success at Chase Center opens the door for an upset on Christmas.
With that being said, let’s stick with the Lakers on the moneyline for this game.

Best Warriors vs Lakers NBA Christmas Player Prop (12/25)
LeBron James has found his groove lately, which is why I’m taking him to record o22.5 total points (-121 on SportsBetting) for the best Warriors vs. Lakers player prop bet.
Even though his 40th birthday is quickly approaching, James continues to be an effective presence for the Lakers. The 20-time NBA All-Star is averaging 25.3 points while shooting 48.5% from the field in his last eight games, finishing with 23-plus points five times along the way. That includes hitting the Over in his last two outings while recording at least 28 points each time.
If that isn’t convincing enough, the Over is 6-0 in James’ last six encounters with the Warriors as he averaged 31.8 PPG on .571/.419/.872 splits. After dropping 36 points on his last trip to the Bay, I expect “The King” to have another solid showing on Christmas.
Best Warriors vs. Lakers Player Prop Bet: LeBron James o22.5 Total Points (-121)
