Knicks vs. Pistons | Analysis

The Bad Boy Pistons just might be back.
Bad Boy Pistons
Old school, punch you in the mouth basketball is back in the Motor City. Led by new head coach J.B. Bickerstaff, the Pistons have brought back the Bad Boy attitude that came with the Pistons teams of the 90’s and early 2000’s. Big men, Jalen Duren and Isaiah Steward have led the charge for this squad on that side of the ball; making sure everyone remembers what it means to play the Pistons.
After a year in which they won just 14-games and fired their head coach, they now look to potentially secure a top-5 seed in the Eastern Conference. Led by their superstar PG, Cade Cunningham; the Pistons have won 43 games and look to finish the season strong.
With Cade back at full health, the young PG was elected his first All-Star Game, averaging 25.7 PPG, 6.2 RPG and 9.1 APG. Since the All-Star Break, he’s bumped up the scoring to 26.6 PPG while still averaging 5.7 RPG and 8.9 APG. Cunningham’s shot 46% from the field and brought his 3-point percentage up to 36.5% after the break.
Detroit now sits 2-games back of the Milwaukee Bucks for 5th in the Eastern Conference, with 3-games left; 2 of them being against the Bucks. If the Pistons hope to make the jump, it starts with a win tonight.
New York State of Mind
The Knicks are locked into home court in the first round and looking to hang onto the 3-seed. Both the Pacers and Knicks have 3 remaining games, both with a game against the Cavaliers who have locked up the 1-seed. The Knicks will be resting Josh Hart, OG Anunoby and Mitchel Robinson tonight; potentially more before tip.
New York’s looked really good this season, but against the top teams in the league they’ve STRUGGLED. The Knicks went 0-9 against the Cavaliers, Celtics and Thunder this season, failing to record a single win against the top teams in the league.
They enter tonight’s game off a loss to the Celtics at Madison Square, looking to get back into the win column here in Detroit.
Our Best Bets in the Knicks vs. Pistons, April 10th
Malik Beasley o3.5 3s (+120 via BetOnline)

Beasley dances after another 3.
Malik Beasley plays basketball today so I’m obligated to bet on it.The Knicks rank 30th in opponent 3-point percentage, 23rd in 3s allowed to the shot guard position and tonight they’ll be without two of their best perimeter defenders in Hart and Anunoby.
Beasley is the the Pistons best perimeter shooter and leads the team in wide open 3-point attempts per game. Beasley’s taken 60 3-point attempts over his L5 games and he’s shooting 32% from beyond the arc. Just 10 of those 60 attempts have been wide open and he’s hit just 20% (2/10) of those wide open attempts.
In short, he’s been experiencing a bit of a shooting slump. He’s cleared this line in just 2 of the 5 games, including his most recent; shooting 4/14 against the terrible Kings defense. In three games against the Knicks this year, Beasley shot 15/24 across all 3 games; recording 6+ in each of the last two matchups.
Beasley’s season was nothing short of amazing, he became one of just 5-players ever to record 300 3-pointers in a single season; he also happens to be the only to do it off the bench. Harden, Curry (x5), Antman, and Klay Thompson; Beasley’s in good company, threes company.
Karl Anthony-Towns o3.5 Assists (+123 via BetOnline)

The Big Bodega
Centers against Detroit, that’s the narrative and with Karl Anthony-Towns it should be no different. This is a line he hasn’t hit his L6 games, clearing it just twice in his L10 games. However, tonight against the Pistons, he should see plenty of opportunity.
Detroit ranks 26th in assists allowed to the C position, with 6 of the L8 starting Cs clearing their line against the Pistons. Jalen Duren is back in the lineup for the Pistons and this is when this trend hold true. Duren’s presence in the paint would deter even the toughest opponents so it’s no surprise why we see big men passing more against this Pistons team.
Towns’ has cleared this line in 2 of his L3 games against the Pistons, recording 7+ potential assists in both matchups this year. The Knicks are down 2-starters with the Pacers not far behind them; look for Towns to step up in more ways than one tonight.
