After Thursday’s two-game slate, the NBA is back in a massive way with 14 matchups lined up for Friday, Jan. 5. Two of those games will air nationally on ESPN, including a tilt between the New York Knicks (19-15) and Philadelphia 76ers (23-10) at 7 p.m. ET.
The Knicks are on the hunt for their third straight victory after Julius Randle and Jalen Brunson combined for 66 points on 57.8% shooting in Wednesday’s 116-100 win over the Chicago Bulls. On the other side, the 76ers improved to 3-1 SU in their last four games with their own 110-97 win against Chicago earlier this week.
Philadelphia also heads into tonight’s game as one of the top picks to win the 2023-24 NBA Finals, sitting at +1200 odds (6th) on BetOnline. As for New York, its +4500 odds to go on a championship run rank 14th-best across the league.
Nevertheless, the NBA Finals aren’t for a few months, so let’s focus on the betting opportunities at hand tonight. Keep scrolling to check out my Knicks vs 76ers prediction and best bets.

Knicks vs 76ers Prediction & Pick (1/5)
Even though they’re Atlantic Division rivals, this game is only the first Knicks-76ers clash of the 2023-24 NBA season. The foes met four times last season with each side picking up an away and home victory apiece.
The 76ers are the clear-cut favorites this time around as they sit third in the Eastern Conference. When it comes to NBA team statistics, Philadelphia ranks sixth in points scored, fourth in points against, first in average scoring margin, and is tied with New York for eighth when it comes to three-point percentage.
While the Knicks are currently fighting for one of the four Play-In Tournament spots, they shouldn’t be taken lightly. Tom Thibodeau’s team might have an average offense, but they still allow the 12th-fewest points with the 10th-best average scoring margin. They also average 12.9 threes made per game, which ranks 11th-best heading into tonight’s affair.
Can Joel Embiid and the 76ers avoid being upset by the Knicks at Wells Fargo Center?
With that in mind, it’ll be interesting to see if the Knicks can finally shake off their road woes tonight. While they’re a solid 10-4 SU at Madison Square Garden this season, the Knicks are only 9-11 SU on the road and have lost three consecutive road games by an 11.3-point margin. A lack of three-point success is one of the key reasons behind that skid as New York only shot 37-for-101 (36.6%) from the perimeter during that span.
Things won’t get any easier tonight seeing as the 76ers allow the fourth-fewest threes made on the third-worst success rate at home.
The Knicks also have a history of coming up short against the 76ers, losing 16 of the last 20 meetings between these teams. In fact, New York is 2-11 SU in its last 13 trips to Wells Fargo Center as well with six of those defeats being double-digit losses. Considering how the Sixers are 13-4 SU with a plus-13.7 average scoring margin at home (2nd) this season, it looks like it’ll be another uphill battle for the visitors.
Can the Knicks finally snap out of their losing ways on the road with a rare win at Wells Fargo Center?
With how well they’re playing at home this season, I’m riding with the 76ers tonight. Embiid & Co. have won seven of their last eight home games for a reason and have a great opportunity to extend that run considering their previous success against the Knicks, who are struggling to get the job done on the road. As long as the 76ers’ defense stays strong (especially on the perimeter), there’s no reason why they shouldn’t beat the Knicks.
Furthermore, let’s take Philadelphia on the 6-point spread. The 76ers know how to cover the spread, highlighted by a 10-3 ATS record in their last 13 games as well as their going 7-1 ATS in their eight previous home outings. The Knicks, on the other hand, are only 10-10 ATS on the road and have failed to cover in four of their last six away games — including each of the last three.
After covering the spread in four of their last six meetings with the Knicks, I see the 76ers winning tonight by multiple possessions.

Best Knicks vs 76ers NBA Player Prop (1/5)
If you’re looking for a great Knicks vs. 76ers player prop, consider taking Joel Embiid to finish with over 1.5 threes made.
While he had a slow start from the perimeter to begin the campaign, Embiid has picked up his pace lately. Over the last 11 games, the reigning NBA MVP is averaging 1.4 threes on 44.1% shooting, finishing with the Over on this prop six times. Even more encouraging is the fact that he’s finished with at least a pair of three-pointers in six of his last eight home games.
With the Knicks also allowing the second most three-pointers to centers this season, don’t be shocked when Embiid has more perimeter success tonight.
Best Knicks vs 76ers Prop Bet: Joel Embiid o1.5 Threes Made (+158)
