The Kings begin their four-game road trip following Tuesday’s impressive 109-95 victory against the LA Clippers. The same can’t be said for the Knicks, whose 109-99 loss to the Miami Heat two nights ago marked their third consecutive loss.

These teams have a way to go when it comes to proving themselves as title contenders. BetOnline is only giving New York +3500 odds (11th) to win the 2023-24 NBA Finals while Sacramento is further down the list at +10000 (16th).

Kings vs Knicks Prediction & NBA Picks Today (4/4): Potential Upset Alert?

Tonight’s matchup is important when it comes to the Kings and Knicks’ playoff outlook. New York is currently fifth in the East, however, it’s 2.5 games away from both a play-in spot and second place in the conference. Meanwhile, Sacramento occupies the West’s eighth seed but only sits half a game back of sixth.

Nevertheless, it was about three weeks ago when these teams first met at Golden 1 Center. The Knicks got the last laugh that night in the form of a 98-91 victory as Jalen Brunson put on a dominant performance with 42 points on 60.7% shooting.

The victory was just another for the Knicks, who are now 5-1 SU in their last six meetings with the Kings. What’s even more impressive is that three of the victories saw Sacramento held to fewer than 100 points as New York outscored the opposition by an average of 11.7 points across the six-game stretch.

It’s also been nearly four years since the Kings last won at Madison Square Garden, dropping three consecutive visits. Unfortunately for them, the Knicks are a solid 4-2 SU/5-1 ATS in their six previous home games. Having said that, Sacramento is 6-2 SU/ATS in its last eight road games.

The Knicks have gotten the better of the Kings more often than not lately. 

Let’s not ignore that the Knicks are struggling at the moment, riding a three-game skid while losing by 5.0 PPG. The inability to defend their opponent’s shots was a key factor in those losses as those foes shot 52.1% from the floor and 41.1% from deep.

It’ll be an uphill battle for the Knicks if those struggles continue. The Kings have one of the NBA’s better attacks, averaging a whopping 117.1 PPG (9th). They only scored 91 points against the Knicks last time, but that could change if the Knicks’ defense is still subpar.

New York’s lineup is also riddled with injuries at the moment. Julius Randle (shoulder) and OG Anunoby (elbow) — two of its best players — are still out while Mitchell Robinson (ankle) and Josh Hart (wrist) are questionable.

As for the Kings, both Kevin Huerter (shoulder) and Malik Monk (knee) will miss tonight’s festivities.

The Knicks are only 15-14 SU without Julius Randle during the 2023-24 NBA season. 

As the Knicks continue to be without Randle and Anunoby, I’m taking the Kings to pull off the upset. New York has next to zero momentum at the moment, whereas Sacramento is coming off back-to-back wins and will be out to avenge last month’s loss. It’s the Kings’ game to lose.

I’m also inclined to back the Under on the 215-point total. The Under is 22-13-2 in the Kings’ road games this season as well as 26-12 for the Knicks at home. That’s without mentioning how seven of the last 10 Sacramento-New York games finished with fewer than 215 points, including when they combined for 189 last month.
