Jazz vs Warriors NBA Analysis, Odds, and Best Bet (1/28)

The Warriors started the NBA season incredibly and have floundered since. The Jazz are playing a game of ‘Capture the Flagg.’ Two reeling teams take each other on Tuesday night. Neither squad has the same rotation as their last meeting. Could be fun? Let’s talk.

Utah Jazz @ Golden State Warriors

The Utah Jazz are a poor basketball team by design. Even though veterans like Colin Sexton and John Collins have looked like winning players this team continues to lose. However, last night at home against Milwaukee they put up a fight until the fourth quarter. They have talented players who want to compete even if the front office does not. The frustration is apparent in postgame pressers:

The Jazz have interesting veterans mixed in with young players. However, none of these players seem like stars that could be paired with Lauri. They are still searching for a franchise piece. Ownership must hope that will likely come in a stacked 2025 draft class.

Stephen Curry is one of the greatest players to ever play this game. Forget the shooting I’m talking about everything. It really hurts to see Golden State be bad while Curry is still so good. The star and his coach have talked about not mortgaging the future for a chance of winning now but then that creates the question: “Why don’t you just retire, Steph?”

For whatever reason, the Warriors seemed poised to have a difficult rest of the season.

NBA Game Analysis

If Utah win this game it is likely lead by Lauri and Sexton. The younger Jazz players may struggle on the road verses a well schemed perimeter defence from the former Dynasty. Against Milwaukee their young quick guards in Collier and George were effective but Golden State has the personnel to counter act this. Additionally, the Warriors are effective at controlling turnovers and Utah is 30th in steals per game.  For Utah to make any noise in this one their highly paid star will have to make noise. The seven-footer should be able to shoot over anyone that Golden State could send his way.

If the Jazz hear the music and turn this into a shootout it will help them. Which is in the realm of possibility as the over hit in 13 of the Utah Jazz last 18 games on the road.

Whenever Golden State wins a basketball game it is because they are forcing steals and they are getting out and hitting threes. If their defence is outmatched, their shooting cannot save them, because they have very little scoring outside of their star. At home, still chasing the playoffs, Golden State could just play defence here and let their offence sputtered along to a narrow victory. The Utah Front office would let this squad go 0-82 if they could.

Lauri Markkanen o21.5 Points (-115)

This one is from a precious purple place known and the ‘Plums.’

The man from Vantaa, Finland is an elite catch and shoot threat but has not been himself this year. He was horrible last time out against Golden State too.  Lauri is averaging only 19.7 points per game this year, and 34.8% from three, both lows for his Utah Jazz tenure. However, I do believe this is a matchup he should have many advantages in.

The Jazz are 9-3 against the spread in their last 12 on the road. I think they could cause problems again tonight and that could be lead be the big Fin who is still a great scoring threat.
