After passing their toughest test of the preliminary round with flying colors, the USA will look to wrap up Group C action tomorrow with a third straight blowout win, this time over Jordan (4:40 am ET, ESPN2).
In their opener against New Zealand, the Americans trailed by ten early but dominated the final three quarters in a 99-72 win on Saturday.
They also trailed early in Monday’s game against Greece, but it was 6-2 instead of 14-4. After grabbing a 9-8 lead four minutes into the game, the USA never trailed again on the way to cruising to a 109-81 win.
Top spot in Group C and a place in the second round are already locked up, but anything less than a rout in their preliminary round finale will be a surprise.

Another Blowout on the Way for the USA?
Though Jordan is 0-2 at the FIBA World Cup, they have certainly made a good impression.
After falling behind by 14 early in the second half against Greece, they rallied to pull within five in the fourth quarter but ran out of steam in a 92-71 loss.
In Monday’s game against New Zealand, they staged another second-half rally, coming back from down by a dozen in the fourth quarter to force overtime. Unfortunately, they managed just two points in the extra period as New Zealand escaped with a 95-87 win.
The man at the center of their inspired play is forward Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, formerly of the Brooklyn Nets, Toronto Raptors, and Portland Trail Blazers.
Most recently, Hollis-Jefferson, the 23rd overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, has been playing in Puerto Rico. But his play in the FIBA World Cup could potentially earn him a deal elsewhere, and another big-time performance against the USA might only enhance those chances.
Against Greece, he had 24 points, nine rebounds, and three assists, and he followed that up with 39 points, nine rebounds, and four assists against New Zealand, which included a late four-point play to send the game to OT.
Even with another big game by Hollis-Jefferson, the USA shouldn’t have any issues winning by a big margin again.
It’s been a real team effort thus far for the Americans, who shot 57.4% against Greece after shooting 59.3% against New Zealand.
Against Greece, nine players scored at least eight points, led by 15 points from Austin Reaves, who is averaging 13.5 PPG, 3.5 RPG, and 6.0 APG through his first two games.
After committing 19 turnovers against New Zealand, the USA needed to do a much better job of protecting the ball against Greece. And they did just that, turning the ball over only 11 times in Monday’s win while recording 26 assists.
Against Jordan, they can afford to be a little looser, but that adjustment is a positive sign for the tougher challenges that lie ahead.
USA vs Jordan Prediction and Picks
USA vs Jordan Picks: Rondae Hollis-Jefferson over 30.5 points + rebounds + assists (-120 at Bovada) & Austin Reaves over 3.5 assists (-130 at Bovada)
Hollis-Jefferson will fill up the stat sheet again, but the Americans will roll in this one. I don’t love the spread or the over on USA’s total points enough to jump on either one, so the props are the focus here.
There’s a little juice with the latter prop, but after dishing out half a dozen dimes in each of the first two games, this one should be easy breezy for Reaves.
