Tonight, a busy weekend of NASCAR action at Charlotte Motor Speedway will kick off with the 11th race of the Truck Series season, the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 (8:30 pm ET, FS1).
Entering tonight’s race, Christian Eckes and Corey Heim are locked in a tight battle for this season’s regular season championship.
Eckes, who has two wins and has finished in the top ten in nine of ten races, is four points clear at the top of the standings. However, Heim, who also has nine top-ten finishes, has won two of the last three races and has a series-leading three wins this season as he seeks his second consecutive regular season crown.
At last year’s North Carolina Education Lottery 200, Ben Rhodes took the checkered flag. It was his only win of the season, but it booked his spot in the playoffs, where he found himself in the right places at the right times in the right races and came away with his second Truck Series title.
Now would be a good time for Rhodes to land in Victory Lane for the first time since his last visit to CMS. He’s currently ninth in the points with six races remaining until the end of the regular season, but he has only two top-ten finishes thus far this season and has several other playoff hopefuls looking to knock him out of contention. Will his penchant for impeccable timing present itself again tonight?

North Carolina Education Lottery 200 Predictions & Picks
With ten races now in the books, four playoff spots are officially accounted for. Even if six different drivers win the final six races of the regular season, Heim, Eckes, Nicholas Sanchez (who won at Daytona), and Rajah Carruth (who won at Las Vegas) will be among the ten drivers vying for the title when the playoffs start at the Milwaukee Mile on August 25.
From a points perspective, things look rather rosy right now for Ty Majeski, Taylor Gray, and Tyler Ankrum, who would need to struggle mightily to miss out even if they don’t win a race.
After that top seven, things get rather interesting. Grant Enfinger, Rhodes, Tanner Gray, and Matt Crafton are separated by only six points, and Daniel Dye (235) and Stewart Friesen (222) aren’t far behind.
Current NASCAR Truck Series Standings (Through Ten Races)
Drivers in bold have won at least one race this season.
- Christian Eckes – 426 points
- Corey Heim – 422
- Ty Majeski – 362
- Nicholas Sanchez – 360
- Taylor Gray – 328
- Tyler Ankrum – 315
- Rajah Carruth – 307
- Grant Enfinger – 256
- Ben Rhodes – 254
- Tanner Gray – 252
- Matt Crafton – 250
- Daniel Dye – 235
- Stewart Friesen – 222
- Jake Garcia – 206
- Bayley Currey – 202
- Chase Purdy – 196
So, tonight’s race could have a significant part to play in how the playoff picture shakes out.
It’s hard to look past either Eckes or Heim for the win, given that they have won five of the seven races not won by NASCAR Cup Series regulars Kyle Busch (who won at Atlanta and Texas) and Ross Chastain (who won at Darlington). The only Cup Series regular in tonight’s race is Ty Gibbs (+8000), who is not one of the race favorites.
Both Heim (-350) and Eckes (-200) are heavily favored to land in the top five, but who might join them?
Enfinger finished fifth in last year’s North Carolina Education Lottery 200 and second behind Ross Chastain in the 2022 edition. He is also coming off his best finish of the season, a runner-up finish at last weekend’s Wright Brand 250 at North Wilkesboro Speedway. At Bovada, he is +240 to finish in the top five again. Lock that in with no hesitation.
How about Rhodes? As noted, he has a penchant for doing what he needs to exactly when he needs to do it. Becoming the first driver since Kyle Busch in 2013 and 2014 to repeat as the winner of this race would be the ideal outcome, but a top-five finish would also be a big boost to his playoff hopes, and +260 odds scream value, value, value.
