Last year, Ryan Blaney won the Coca-Cola 600 then went on to win his first NASCAR Cup Series championship. In 2021, Kyle Larson did the same, with the race in Charlotte one of his ten wins that season.
Will Christopher Bell achieve similar success this year? Due to inclement weather, the 2024 Coca-Cola 600 was red-flagged and ultimately called after 249 of 400 laps. The beneficiary of that was Bell, who was ahead of Brad Keselowski and William Byron when the red flag came out.
Bell already had one foot in the playoffs due to a win in the Shriners Children’s 500 in March. Following his win at Charlotte Motor Speedway, he has both feet in and will be in the field of 16 for the fourth straight season.
Each of the past two years, Bell was a part of the Championship 4 but wasn’t the last man standing, finishing third in 2022 and fourth last year. Will 2024 be his year? After winning at Phoenix Raceway in March, he will be aiming for even bigger success come November 10.
Also a part of last year’s Championship 4 was Larson, who finished second to Blaney in the final standings. If he is to be in the mix again this year, he will need special dispensation.
Larson was attempting to do the Indianapolis 500/Coca-Cola 600 double, but rain delayed the start of the action in Indy by over four hours. As a result of staying for that race and missing the start (and eventually all) of the Coca-Cola 600, Larson will need a waiver to be a part of this season’s NASCAR Cup Series playoffs due to the rule that drivers must start all 26 regular season races to be eligible for the playoffs.
Prior to the Coca-Cola 600, Larson was atop the points standings, ahead of Martin Truex Jr. and Denny Hamlin. And even after missing the race, dropping out of the lead, and with the waiver situation now in play, Larson remains the favorite for this season’s title, according to the latest NASCAR Cup Series championship odds at BetOnline.

NASCAR Cup Series Championship Favorites
Kyle Larson (+400)
Given the publicity that Larson’s double dip attempt provided, it’s unlikely that NASCAR will be difficult when a waiver is requested. So, we can still plan to see Larson have a chance to join the list of drivers with multiple NASCAR Cup Series championship wins.
Denny Hamlin (+500)
Hamlin has accomplished so much in his career, but he remains one of the best drivers to not win a NASCAR Cup Series championship. Will his years of heartbreak finally end this year?
William Byron (+500)
Byron led the Cup Series in wins last season and is leading the way with three wins in the first 14 races this season. After missing out in 2023 after starting the championship race on the pole, will he bring the title home this year?
Christopher Bell (+800)
Bell followed a strong performance in the 2022 Cup Series championship playoffs with another one in the 2023 Cup Series championship playoffs, but his day in last year’s Phoenix finale ended early.
Chase Elliott (+900)
Last year, the 2020 Cup Series champion missed several races due to injury and suspension and was unable to win a race all season or squeeze into the playoffs on points. This year, Elliott has returned to Victory Lane (winning at Texas Motor Speedway) and to a prominent position in the championship picture. Will the most popular driver in the Cup Series claim his second title in November?
