While the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs get underway tomorrow, the start of the Xfinity Series playoffs is still a few weeks away. So, today’s Focused Health 250 at Atlanta Motor Speedway (3:00 pm ET, USA Network) offers the opportunity for someone to lock in their spot with a victory.
So far, eight of the 12 playoff spots are accounted for. Points leader Justin Allgaier, wins leader Shane van Gisbergen, reigning Xfinity Series champion Cole Custer, Chandler Smith, Austin Hill, Riley Herbst, Jesse Love, and Sam Mayer are certainties for the Round of 12 based on victories this season.
With three races remaining until the playoffs begin on September 28 at Kansas Speedway, there’s a lot of potential drama ahead over the next few weeks. The likes of Sheldon Creed, A.J. Allmendinger, and Parker Kligerman are well-positioned to make the playoffs on points, but a lot can happen between now and the last lap of the regular season finale at Bristol on September 20.
In February, Austin Hill won the Raptor King of Tough 250 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, one of his three wins in the last four Xfinity Series races at the track. So, though he hasn’t won since that race, it is no surprise that he is the favorite to take the checkered flag today, ahead of Richard Childress Racing teammate Love, who led 157 of 169 laps in the February race but came up empty-handed.

Focused Health 250 Predictions & Picks
- Sheldon Creed to finish in the top five (+125 at Bovada): Creed is still searching for his first Xfinity Series win, but he is banging on the door. In his last ten races, he has finished in the top five seven times, including three runner-up finishes. In the February race, he came in fourth behind Hill, Chandler Smith, and SVG. Look for him to be near the front again.
- Austin Hill to finish in the top three (-125 at Bovada): Since opening the season with two wins and five consecutive top-five finishes, Hill has finished in the top five only three times in 18 races. But he has had a lot of success at this track in the last couple of years, and that should continue today even if he doesn’t pick up his third win of the season.
- Chandler Smith to finish in the top five (+125 at Bovada): Like Hill, Smith hasn’t kept up his early season form. He opened the season with two wins and six top-five finishes in his first seven races, but he hasn’t won since and has finished in the top five only twice in 16 races. But after finishing second at Daytona and eighth at Darlington in the last two races, his form is on the upswing at the right time.
- Austin Hill to win the Focused Health 250: Love is a good shout given how he dominated the Raptor King of Tough 250 in February. But if there’s an RCR car to pick for the win in this race, it’s the one that has won three of the last four races at Atlanta.
