Yankees vs. Red Sox (September 13): Will the bats have a big night at Fenway?

The biggest rivalry in baseball–and perhaps the biggest rivalry in American sports–is renewed tonight as the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox meet at Fenway Park.

With the Red Sox out of the playoff hunt–not mathematically, but at ten games back of the last AL wild-card spot, they need a miracle that isn’t going to occur–the stakes aren’t as high as they have been on a lot of other occasions.

But even with diminished stakes with regards to the division or AL wild-card standings, intensity and excitement will not be lacking for this matchup.

And while the Red Sox are just trying to avoid a losing season at this point, a series win could help make things tighten up again in the AL East, where the Yankees are currently five and a half games ahead of the Toronto Blue Jays and six ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays.
