Yankees vs Phillies Predictions & MLB Picks Today (7/29)
These clubs head into tonight’s matchup as two of Major League Baseball’s championship favorites. The Phillies sit atop the pack as BetOnline’s +325 favorite to win the 2024 World Series while the Yankees aren’t much further back as they are currently in a tie for the third-best odds (+700).
Neither side has been acting like much of a championship contender lately. The Yankees are coming off back-to-back wins over the rival Boston Red Sox, however, they’re only 4-5 SU since this year’s All-Star Break while their 34.3% winning percentage since June 15 ranks second-worst in the entire MLB. As for the Phillies, they’re an underwhelming 3-6 SU since the regular season resumed.
It isn’t even as if playing at Citizens Bank Park gives Rob Thomson’s team that much of an edge lately. The Phillies are just 2-4 SU across their last six home games made worse by allowing an average of 6.0 runs per contest during that stretch. For comparison, visitors have only been scoring 3.65 runs per game in Philly this season.
Conversely, the Yankees are a modest 7-5 SU in their last 12 road games. At the same time, though, they only have a 46.4% winning percentage in inter-league tilts this season whereas the Phillies have a 55.2% success rate in that regard.
Will the Yankees finally discover some inter-league success tonight?
Having said that, these clubs haven’t done well against the opposite league lately. Philadelphia has dropped five of its last seven outings against an American League opponent while New York is on an eight-game losing streak against the National League.
As far as the recent history between these teams goes, things have been extremely even with each side winning 10 of the last 20 matchups. Nevertheless, it’s the Yankees who are 4-1 SU across the last five matchups. At the same time, Philadelphia is 4-1 SU in the last five meetings at Citizens Bank Park.
Regardless of what’s happened over the last few years, fans could be in for a pitching duel tonight. Yankees RHP Luis Gil is back on track after some late-June struggles, having gone 1-1 with a 1.53 ERA and 22 strikeouts across 17 2/3 innings in his last three starts.
Meanwhile, NL Cy Young candidate Zack Wheeler (+160, 2nd on BetOnline) has also been at the top of his game. The Phillies righty has limited his last five opponents to two or fewer earned runs, pitching to a 1.71 ERA while averaging 9.7 Ks per nine innings.
Phillies RHP Zack Wheeler aims to continue his hot streak against the Yankees tonight.
With the home-field advantage on their side, I’m predicting the Phillies to win. Philadelphia is due to break out of its slump and I see that happening tonight based on its recent home success against New York. The Yankees might be coming off consecutive wins, but it’s been well over a month since they’ve won three in a row.
I’ll be keeping things simple with an outright Phillies bet given that they’re a resounding 12-4 SU across Wheeler’s last 16 starts.

Best Yankees vs Phillies MLB Player Prop (7/29)
Sticking with the NL Cy Young contender, let’s go with Zack Wheeler u2.5 earned runs (-130) for today’s best Yankees vs. Phillies MLB player prop.
When it comes to this prop, Wheeler has finished with the Under in 16 of his 20 starts thus far (80.0%). The two-time MLB All-Star has only allowed more than 2.5 earned runs once in his 11 previous appearances, which includes finishing each of the last five with two or fewer earned runs allowed. That’s without mentioning how the Under is also 5-0 in his last five starts at Citizens Bank Park.
Although the Yankees boast some powerful bats, their offense has been largely inconsistent since the All-Star festivities ended. It wouldn’t be shocking if Wheeler has another strong performance in front of a jam-packed Philly crowd.
