Yankees vs Guardians Game 3 Predictions & MLB Picks Today (10/17)

The Yankees are now only two games away from advancing to the 2024 World Series following their 6-3 victory over the Guardians in Game 2.

New York never trailed after taking a lead in the first inning as its pitching staff kept Cleveland’s offense at bay. Aaron Judge led the offensive charge for the Yankees as he crushed his first home run of the postseason while adding a trio of RBIs.

As mentioned before, the ALCS has been quite lopsided as the Yankees have now outscored the Guardians 11-5 on aggregate through two games. It isn’t all that shocking, though. The Bronx Bombers are 4-0 SU in their last four matchups against the Guardians dating back to the regular season, tallying a plus-4.8 average run margin along the way.

In fact, Cleveland is only 2-8 SU in its last 10 meetings with New York dating back to the 2023 MLB season, highlighting just how far back this dominance goes.

Will the Yankees defeat the Guardians for a fifth straight time? 

Even though the Yankees are the away team tonight, let’s not forget that they’re 5-0 SU in their last five road games. Additionally, they’re 4-1 SU across their last five trips to Progressive Field.

Speaking of which, the Guardians have dropped three of their last five home games. Although that’s a small sample size, it shows that they might be vulnerable at home.

The Yankees are sending RHP Clarke Schmidt to the mound as they seek a 3-0 ALCS lead. The 28-year-old righty pitched to a 3.86 ERA in 4 2/3 innings against the Kansas City Royals in the ALDS. Having said that, his career postseason ERA of 6.43 means it remains to be seen if his last performance was a fluke or not.

Meanwhile, Guardians LHP Matthew Boyd pitched 6 2/3 shutout innings against the Detroit Tigers last round, striking out 10 batters along the way. The Yankees are only batting .228 vs. left-handed pitchers this fall, though, leaving time to tell if Boyd can take advantage of those woes tonight.

Can Guardians LHP Matthew Boyd outduel Yankees RHP Clarke Schmidt tonight? 

Could the Guardians win at home? Maybe, but I’m taking the Yankees to go up 3-0 tonight. It’s a clear-cut case of who the better club has been thus far and I don’t expect that to change. The Guardians simply can’t keep up with the Yankees’ thunderous bats and that trend should continue given the recent success that the latter has had at Progressive Field.

With that in mind, let’s go with the Yankees covering the run line following another dominant showcase.

I’m going with Gleyber Torres o0.5 runs + RBIs (-107) for the best Yankees vs. Guardians ALCS Game 3 player prop bet of the night.

Torres has been one of the Yankees’ best players throughout the postseason. The two-time All-Star shortstop is slashing .292/.433/.500 across 24 at-bats thus far while tallying seven runs and three RBIs along the way, finishing with the Over on this prop in five of six games along the way. In fact, the Over is 11-2 in his last 13 games dating back to the regular season.

With the Over also being 5-2 in his last seven games vs. the Guardians, Torres is on track for another strong performance tonight.
