Two Studs on the Bump
With Sonny Gray and Logan Gilbert on the mound tonight, and a total listed at 7, this game just screams under to me.
These pitchers combine for just over 5 runs a game and both offenses rank in the bottom half in runs scored per contest. Both teams also rank in the top 5 of the MLB in runs allowed per game.
Now, these teams also love to strikeout against right-handed pitchers.
The Twins strikeout the most against righties, over 27% of the time, putting them 1st in this category. The Mariners are right behind them at just over 25%, ranking 2nd in the league.
Will we see plenty of strikeouts tonight with these two pitchers?
Both average right around 1 K/Inning, leaving this question virtually unanswered.
However, I may have found a play.
Player Props
Logan Gilbert over 7.5 Strikeouts (+138)
It’s not going to be pretty and it’s probably going to be extremely sweaty.
Gilbert only averages 0.98 K/Inning, and I doubt he makes it through eight today.
Therefore, we need him to play above average, but I think he can against this Twins lineup.
Gilbert has only posted 8 Ks in 3 starts this year, but two of them did come at home where he pitches tonight.
Over the entire season, and over the past month, the Twins strike out more than any other team in Major League Baseball. Pitchers for the Oakland A’s cleared their strikeout line twice in their first series after the All Star break.
