See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe Miami Marlins have been one of the big surprises of the first month of the 2022 MLB season and currently occupy second place in the NL East behind the New York Mets. This evening, they look for their seventh straight win as they look to secure a series win against the visiting Seattle Mariners.
While the Marlins are trending up with their six-game win streak, the Mariners are trending down somewhat, having lost three in a row. In last night’s series opener, the Marlins scored all eight of their runs in the first three innings and made them stand up in an 8-6 win.
In today’s matchup, the Mariners will be counting on reigning AL Cy Young winner Robbie Ray to help them even up the series. Ray hasn’t had a dominant start, nor is he putting up strong strikeout numbers, but Seattle will feel confident about forcing a rubber match with their ace on the hill opposite Jesus Luzardo.

Different Day, Same Production, Different Result for Seattle?
In last night’s opener, the Mariners fell despite putting six runs on the board, thanks to a rocky two-inning outing for rookie pitcher Matt Brash. Brash allowed six runs in two innings, and Matthew Festa allowed two more runs in the third inning. The Marlins did not score in their final five turns at the plate, but the eight early runs were enough to withstand Seattle’s ninth-inning rally.
If the Mariners put six runs on the board again tonight, the outcome will likely be different.
Seattle Mariners 2022 Won-Loss Splits by Runs Scored
- Fewer than four runs (six times): 1-5
- Exactly four runs (five times): 3-2
- Five or more runs (nine times): 7-2
Ray’s career splits are also highly favorable when he’s backed up by six or more runs. In his MLB career, there have been 65 starts in which he got that much run support, and he has posted a 42-2 record in those 65 starts.
Combine his 19-19 record in 71 starts in which he has had three to five runs of support, and he has a 61-21 record in the 128 starts in which his team scored at least three runs. When his team has scored fewer than three runs, his record is 3-38 in 57 starts.
Ray has pitched well against the Marlins, which is encouraging for today’s matchup. In nine appearances (eight starts), he is 4-3 with a 2.12 ERA. That includes a 2-2 record and a 2.03 ERA in five appearances (four starts) at LoanDeport Park. Against opponents he has faced at least five times, the 2.12 is his best ERA, and the 2.03 ERA is his best ERA in any opposition park in which he has logged at least five appearances.
Mariners vs. Marlins April 30 Prediction and Best Bets
Prediction: Mariners to win
Best Bets: Mariners ML (+106 at BetOnline)
The Marlins are hot right now, but the Mariners have the edge in today’s matchup with the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner on the bump.
Ray may not be putting up big strikeout numbers so far–only 18 strikeouts in 25.1 IP in his four starts–but he has pitched well, outside of a rough outing against the White Sox a few weeks ago. Look for another strong start and for the M’s to return to the win column tonight.
