In sports betting, having at least some level of knowledge of what or who you are betting on is one of the most helpful aspects to being able to come out on the winning side. Whether it is MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, soccer, tennis, golf, or another sport, it never hurts to know where you are putting your money.
Sure, knowing the ins and outs of a particular sport, league, or team isn’t a guarantee of success, because there are no guarantees with sports betting, save for the fact that if you do this long enough, an inexplicable bad beat is around the corner. We have all been there.
With baseball, one of the major aspects that sets it apart from the other major team sports is the impact and importance of matchups, especially pitching matchups.
The fact that even the worst team can have the upper hand in a pitching matchup against a much better team on a particular day is one of the reasons why even the worst teams in MLB will typically win at least 30 percent of their games over the course of the season.
In fact, in the modern era of baseball (from 1900 to the present day), only 23 teams have had a winning percentage of .300 or lower in a single season. And of those 23 teams, only three are recent: the 2003 and 2019 Detroit Tigers and 2008 Baltimore Orioles.
Also, it was only three seasons ago that the NL Cy Young Award went to a pitcher–Jacob deGrom with the 74-88 Mets in 2018–who was on a team that posted a losing record.
And since you should not go flying blindly into your daily MLB betting, here are today’s starting pitching matchups.
