See Picks & Statistics For The GameAfter losing two of three at home against the Chicago White Sox, the New York Yankees were staring at a second straight series loss last night against the visiting Baltimore Orioles.
But the Bronx Bombers rallied twice, first after trailing 5-3 in the seventh and then after falling behind 6-5 in the 11th inning, walking it off on Jose Trevino’s RBI single in the bottom of that frame.
Tonight, the two longtime AL East rivals meet in the rubber match at Yankee Stadium, with the Orioles seeking to take a series from the Yankees for the second time this season.

Will the Third Time be the Charm for Wells Against Yankees?
After pitching in 44 games in relief last season as a rookie, Tyler Wells has made the move to Baltimore’s starting rotation this season.
His numbers don’t jump off of the page, but he has had a number of solid outings among his first eight starts, two of which have come against the Yankees.
2022 Starts for Tyler Wells vs. the Yankees
- April 16 vs. Yankees: 4 IP, 0 R, 3 H, 2 BB, 3 K
- April at Yankees: 5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 4 K
He received a no-decision in both starts, both of which were 5-2 wins for the Yankees. His numbers on the road are a bit rough, as he is 0-3 with a 7.62 ERA in four road starts, but he has already shown that he can hold his own against the Yankees at Yankee Stadium.
The Orioles are only 6-15 as a road underdog this season and have lost eight of 12 head-to-head meetings with the Yankees thus far in 2022. But they did take two of three from the Yankees in Baltimore last month and their last three losses to the Bronx Bombers have each been by one run.
The Orioles have had a four-run inning in each of the first two games of this series, and they will be aiming to do similar damage against Sears, who is making his first MLB start this evening.
Sears has spent most of his time this season in Triple-A, where he was 1-0 with an 0.83 ERA in six appearances (four starts), allowed only three runs (two earned), 11 hits, and two walks in 21.2 innings, while racking up 30 strikeouts.
But he made two early-season relief appearances for the big league club, including one against the Orioles in the April 16 game that Wells started at Oriole Park. In that appearance, he allowed two hits and a walk in one inning but emerged unscathed.
Orioles vs. Yankees Prediction and Best Bets
Orioles vs. Yankees Prediction: Orioles to win
Orioles vs. Yankees Best Bets: Over 7.5 (-104 at BetOnline)
Wells has pitched well against the Yankees this season, and I like him to finally get a reward for those efforts tonight. The Orioles actually rank third in MLB in bullpen ERA (3.11), with only the Astros (2.61) and Tigers (2.98) coming in ahead of them.
So, if Wells can have another strong effort tonight, the pen may be in line for some redemption after a poor night last night.
That said, I do expect runs on the board in the series finale. There have been eight or more runs in seven of the last nine meetings between these two teams, including four of five matchups at Yankee Stadium.
With that in mind, this total is fairly low, especially with a guy making his first MLB start on the mound tonight.
