See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe New York Yankees have picked a fantastic time to seemingly shed their road struggles, as they have taken the first two games of their four-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Tonight, they will go for the series win with Gerrit Cole on the mound opposite Chris Bassitt (7:07 pm ET, ESPN+)
After claiming a 7-4 win in Monday’s series opener, the Yankees (25-19, 9-9 away) scored three runs in the final two innings to earn a 6-3 win. The big blow was Aaron Judge’s two-run homer in the top of the eighth, which broke a 3-3 tie and put the Bronx Bombers ahead to stay.
Will Toronto take down Cole to set up a potential series split? Or will the AL Cy Young Award favorite improve to 6-0 to give New York the chance to get the sweep tomorrow? Read on for our prediction and best bets for today’s Yankees vs Blue Jays game.

Can Cole Outduel Bassitt to Pad Cy Young Cushion?
Prior to this series, the Yankees had lost three straight road series, but halfway through this series, they have a decent shot at their first sweep of a three or four-game road series since they broke out the brooms in a three-game series at Kansas City at the end of April of last year.
Tonight, Cole will take the hill for New York, with Nestor Cortes set for the starting assignment for tomorrow’s series finale.
Cole ranks third in the AL in WAR for pitchers behind Detroit’s Eduardo Rodriguez and Minnesota’s Sonny Gray, both of whom are also in action today (versus the Pirates and Dodgers, respectively).
But Gray and Rodriguez are two of the pitchers looking up at Cole in the latest AL Cy Young Award odds, with the two-time runner-up and Rays lefty Shane McClanahan currently out ahead of the field of AL Cy Young contenders.
Cole has allowed two or fewer runs in all but one of his nine starts this season, and the Yankees are 8-1 in the games he has started. The lone outlier and blemish came in his most recent road start, as he allowed six runs in five innings in a loss against the Rays ten days ago.
The Blue Jays have failed to score five or more runs in three consecutive games only twice this season, and they have not failed to score five or more runs in three consecutive home games since last season, which came in the Yankees’ most recent visit to Toronto last September.
That is a promising sign for a turnaround at the plate, which will be a boost for Bassitt. That said, if he pitches like he has thus far in May, he won’t need much run support. He has not allowed a run in his first two starts, and he is coming off of a complete-game shutout of the Atlanta Braves last Friday.
New York Yankees vs Toronto Blue Jays Prediction and Best Bets
Prediction for Yankees vs Blue Jays: Blue Jays to win
Best Bets for Yankees vs Blue Jays: Yankees/Blue Jays under 8 & Gerrit Cole under 6.5 strikeouts
The Yankees are 19-11 as a favorite, including 5-3 as a road favorite, and with Cole on the mound, they are good value for the win.
I happen to lean Toronto, but I’m not confident enough in that pick to recommend it as one of the best bets for this matchup.
I do, however, really like the under, as well as the under for Cole’s K prop odds. In Cole’s previous start against the Blue Jays this season, the Yankees picked up a 3-2 win at home on April 22. In that outing, Cole pitched 5.2 shutout innings but struck out only four. He has not had seven or more strikeouts against the Blue Jays in seven straight starts, a streak that goes back to the 2021 season.
