Neither the Yankees nor the Mets are where they would like to be in the standings at the moment, but you can still expect plenty of eyes to be on this week’s Subway Series showdown, which starts Tuesday night at Citi Field (7:20 pm ET, TBS).

The Yankees (38-29, 17-12 away) make the trip to Flushing after losing two series at home last week. They lost two of three to the Chicago White Sox, who are just 12-21 on the road this season, then dropped two of three in their rivalry matchup with the Boston Red Sox, who had lost eight of 11 entering the series.

The Mets (31-35, 15-12 home), meanwhile, have lost eight of their last nine games, and they already find themselves nine games behind the Atlanta Braves in the NL East. This past week, they were swept by the Braves in Atlanta, then lost two of three at Pittsburgh.

Struggling Offense Leaves Severino with Minimal Margin for Error

After pitching fairly well in his first couple of starts this season, June has not been kind to Severino thus far.

After allowing seven runs and nine hits–three of which were homers–in a loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 2, Severino allowed four runs and six hits–including three more homers–against the White Sox last Tuesday.

With how rough things have been for the Yankees at the plate as of late, Severino can’t afford to have another subpar start.

After being held to three runs twice in their series against the White Sox, the Yankees managed just seven runs in their three games against the Red Sox.

Will things pick up at Citi Field? The outlook is pretty bleak. Scherzer has made only three home starts thus far this season, but he has been excellent in all three.

The Mets were held to just one run in Sunday’s one-run loss in Pittsburgh, but scoring runs has not been the big issue for the most part during their recent struggles. Prior to Sunday’s game, they had scored four or more runs in six consecutive games.

If they can manage even just four runs in this matchup, it might be too much for the Yankees, who are 9-20 when they have allowed four or more runs this season.
