The Detroit Tigers opened this MLB Wild Card series with a 3-1 victory over the Houston Astros. A three-run second inning was all the Tigers needed to seal the deal as LHP Tarik Skubal struck out six batters across as many scoreless innings to the franchise to its first postseason victory since 2013.
The Tigers played well in Game 1, however, I see the Astros getting revenge. Not only does this Houston team have a plethora of playoff experience, but it also has lost back-to-back games only once since Sept 12, illustrating how well it bounces back from adversity.
The Astros are also using RHP Hunter Brown, who’s been phenomenal in the playoffs. In 10 2/3 playoff innings, Brown has pitched to a 1.69 ERA with seven strikeouts and eight hits allowed. Meanwhile, the Tigers are projected to have a bullpen game with reliever Tyler Holton drawing the start.
With both starters playing well lately, though, I’ll take the Astros winning in a game that features fewer than 7.5 total runs.

- Baltimore Orioles -1.5 (+135)
Orioles vs Royals Over/Under
- Over 7.5 Runs (-105)
- Under 7.5 Runs (-115)
Royals vs Orioles Moneyline
- Kansas City Royals (+142)
- Baltimore Orioles (-155)
The Kansas City Royals were one of three road teams that won their series opener on Tuesday. The Royals picked up a hard-fought 1-0 win against the Baltimore Orioles as starting pitchers Cole Ragans and Corbin Burnes had a duel to remember. Game 1’s lone run came when Kansas City shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. hit a single in the top of the sixth inning to score third baseman Maikel Garcia.
Even though the Royals have the home-field advantage, I’m not sure if they’ll bounce back. They’re only 2-7 SU in their last nine outings at Camden Yards, whereas the Royals are a respectable 6-3 SU across their nine previous road outings.
Considering how starting pitchers Seth Lugo and Zach Eflin were both lit up by the other’s team at various points this season, let’s take the Royals to win in a high-scoring affair.
Royals vs. Orioles Game 2 Prediction: KCR wins
Best Royals vs. Orioles Game 2 Bet: o7.5 Total Runs (-105)

Mets vs Brewers Game 2 Predictions, Odds & Picks
- Matchup: No. 6 New York Mets (89-73, 43-38 Away) vs. No. 3 Milwaukee Brewers (93-69, 47-34 Home)
- Series: NYM leads 1-0
- Venue & Location: American Family Field (Milwaukee, WI)
- Date: Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2024
- Game Time: 7:30 p.m. ET
- How to Watch Mets vs. Brewers: ESPN
Mets vs Brewers Run Line
- New York Mets +1.5 (-198)
- Milwaukee Brewers -1.5 (+173)
Brewers vs Mets Over/Under
- Over 7.5 Runs (-115)
- Under 7.5 Runs (-105)
Mets vs Brewers Moneyline
- New York Mets (+105)
- Milwaukee Brewers (-115)
Game 1 of this MLB Wild Card series featured the most action on Tuesday as the New York Mets notched an 8-4 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers. After a back-and-forth start to the game, five unanswered runs in the fifth inning gave the Mets a lead that they wouldn’t lose as RHP Luis Severino tallied his first win of the 2024 playoffs.
While the Mets’ upset win was fun, I expect the Brewers to get back on track. After all, Milwaukee went 5-1 SU against New York during the regular season, which includes a win against today’s starter, Sean Manaea. The veteran hurler surrendered five runs on seven hits in just 3 2/3 innings during an 8-4 loss to the Brewers on Sept. 27.
The Brewers should bounce back at American Famil Field tonight, so let’s take the moneyline in this scenario. They’re too good to be swept.

Best Mets vs. Brewers Game 2 Bet: MIL ML (-115)
Braves vs Padres Game 2 Predictions, Odds & Picks
- hup: No. 5 Atlanta Braves (89-73, 43-38 Away) vs. No. 4 San Diego Padres (93-69, 45-36 Home)
- Series: SD leads 1-0
- Venue & Location: Petco Park (San Diego, CA)
- Date: Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2024
- Game Time: 8:30 p.m. ET
- How to Watch Braves vs. Padres: ESPN2
Braves vs Padres Run Line
- Atlanta Braves +1.5 (-205)
- San Diego Padres -1.5 (+175)
Padres vs Braves Over/Under
- Over 6.5 Runs (-120)
- Under 6.5 Runs (+100)
Braves vs Padres Moneyline
- Atlanta Braves (+116)
- San Diego Padres (-126)
The San Diego Padres completely silenced the Atlanta Braves in their series opener, earning a 4-0 victory in Game 1. Fernando Tatis Jr. and Kyle Higashioka each recorded their first home runs of the playoffs while Michael King struck out a whopping 12 Atlanta batters across seven shutout innings.
During yesterday’s preview, I mentioned how the Braves’ recent lack of run production would lead to their downfall and it turns out that I was right. Atlanta is now averaging just 2.8 runs across its last six outings and that’s bad news given today’s matchup against Padres RHP Joe Musgrove, who’s 1-0 with a 0.98 ERA and 23 strikeouts in his last three starts.
I can see the Braves struggling offensively (again), so let’s take the Padres to win while holding the opposition to fewer than 1.5 runs in the first five innings.
Braves vs. Padres Game 2 Prediction: SD wins
Best Braves vs. Padres Game 2 Bet: ATL u1.5 Runs in First Five Innings (-120)
