While the Hawks vs Heat and Timberwolves vs Lakers NBA Play-In Tournament matchups are the most notable games on tonight’s sports calendar, there is plenty for MLB fans and bettors to look forward on this fine Tuesday night as well.
Tonight, Jacob deGrom, Shohei Ohtani, and Corbin Burnes are all on the mound, in addition to Gerrit Cole, Cristian Javier, Aaron Nola, Shane McClanahan, and Atlanta’s Kyle Wright, who led MLB in wins last season with 21.
With so many talented pitchers on the mound, will the under be a frequent play tonight? There will be at least a few, but here, we will take a look at the best bets for the most notable matchups on the schedule.

MLB Best Bets for Tuesday, April 11, 2023
Listed odds are via BetOnline as of Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at 5:25 pm ET.
Kansas City Royals (RHP Jordan Lyles: 0-2, 4.91 ERA) vs Texas Rangers (RHP Jacob deGrom: 1-0, 5.59 ERA), 8:05 pm ET
Royals vs Rangers Odds
- Moneyline: Kansas City Royals +240, Texas Rangers -295
- Over/Under: Over 8 (-110), Under 8 (-110)
- Run Line: Kansas City Royals +1.5 (+116), Texas Rangers -1.5 (-140)
After back-to-back series losses, the Rangers started this series off on the right foot, as a seven-run sixth helped them to an 11-2 win.
Tonight, they will look to wrap up the series win with deGrom on the bump opposite Lyles. After a bumpy debut against the Phillies, the two-time NL Cy Young winner was sharp against the Baltimore Orioles last Wednesday, allowing just two hits, two walks, and two runs and striking out 11 in six innings.
Should we expect more of the same tonight against Kansas City? Absolutely. The Royals are dead last in MLB in batting average (.179) and second-to-last in runs per game (2.64), and they have racked up 102 strikeouts in their 11 games, which is third in the league.
The Rangers have been feast (five or more runs five times) or famine (three or fewer runs five times) at the plate thus far, but they have scored 19 runs in their last two games and won’t be unfamiliar with Lyles, who made 44 starts for Texas across 2020 and 2021.
Royals vs Rangers Best Bet: Rangers -1.5
Washington Nationals (RHP Josiah Gray: 0-2, 4.91 ERA) vs Los Angeles Angels (RHP Shohei Ohtani: 1-0, 0.75 ERA), 9:38 pm ET, ESPN+
Nationals vs Angels Odds
- Moneyline: Washington Nationals +260, Los Angeles -320
- Over/Under: Over 8.5 (-106), Under 8.5 (-114)
- Run Line: Washington Nationals +1.5 (+125), Los Angeles Angels -1.5 (-150)
Last night, the Nationals upset the odds by overturning an early 4-1 deficit to claim a 6-4 win in the series opener at Angel Stadium.
Getting to Jose Suarez is one thing, but doing the same to Ohtani is an entirely different thing, especially with the start he has had on the mound to the new MLB season. In a dozen innings across his first two starts, the 2021 AL MVP has allowed just one run and struck out 18, and he has allowed more walks (seven) than hits (five).
Dating back to last season, the Nationals have scored three or fewer runs 20 times in 30 starts by Gray. In his two starts thus far in 2023, they have scored one lonely run, an inconsequential tally in a 7-1 loss to the Braves ten days ago.
It is encouraging that the Nats have scored 29 runs in their last four games, three of which have been wins. But three of those games and 23 of those runs were against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, which needs to be taken into consideration. Their little surge is nice and all, but it will come to a halt tonight.
Nationals vs Angels Best Bet: Washington Nationals team total under 3 runs
