Tuesday’s MLB schedule doesn’t have a lot of standout matchups with regards to entertainment value, but 15 games means that there’s plenty for bettors to feast on and enjoy.
For today’s best bets, I’m taking a look at a couple of the late games, as the Angels will look to bounce back from an extra-inning loss to the Athletics and the Giants will aim to keep their win streak going against the Cardinals.
Let’s take a look at those two games and the bets I like for each matchup.
MLB Best Bets – Tuesday, April 25
Unless otherwise noted, any odds listed below are via BetOnline.
Oakland Athletics (5-18) vs Los Angeles Angels (11-12), 9:38 pm ET
Athletics vs Angels Pitching Matchup
- Oakland Athletics: RHP Mason Miller (0-0, 4.15 ERA)
- Los Angeles Angels: RHP Griffin Canning (0-0, 3.48 ERA)
Athletics vs Angels Odds
- Moneyline: Oakland Athletics +152, Los Angeles Angels -180
- Over/Under: Over 9 (-110), Under 9 (-110)
- Run Line: Oakland Athletics +1.5 (-130), Los Angeles Angels -1.5 (+108)
Last night’s series opener in Anaheim was quite the wild game, to say the least. The A’s jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the third inning, but the Angels scored seven unanswered runs to take an 8-7 lead.
Oakland then tied the game in the ninth and scored three in the 10th to go up 11-8, but the Angels narrowed the gap to one with a two-run homer and put the tying and winning runs on base. But Taylor Ward struck out, and Mike Trout grounded into a fielder’s choice to end the game and hand the A’s just their fifth win of the season.
Will we see more runs tonight? There will be some, but my favorite bet for this matchup is the under on Oakland’s team total. Following last night’s run fest, the Angels have now allowed six or more runs seven times this season. In the first six instances, they allowed three or fewer runs in the following game five times.
Athletics vs Angels Best Bet: Oakland Athletics under 4 runs
St. Louis Cardinals (9-14) vs San Francisco Giants (9-13), 9:45 pm ET
Cardinals vs Giants Pitching Matchup
- St. Louis Cardinals: RHP Jake Woodford (1-2, 6.05 ERA)
- San Francisco Giants: RHP John Brebbia (1-0, 5.63 ERA)
Cardinals vs Giants Odds
- Moneyline: St. Louis Cardinals -102, San Francisco Giants -116
- Over/Under: Over 9.5 (-108), Under 9.5 (-112)
- Run Line: St. Louis Cardinals -1.5 (+146), San Francisco Giants +1.5 (-178)
After failing to follow any of their first six wins this season with another win, the Giants are on something of a little roll at the moment, having won their last three games. Last night, they blanked the Cardinals 4-0, delivering St. Louis an eighth straight loss in a series opener to start this season.
The Cards are 4-3 in the second game of a series this season, but I am instead going with San Francisco to pick up a fourth straight win.
Games involving an opener as an actual starter are perhaps a little harder to handicap, because the opener isn’t going for five, six, or seven innings and the pitching strategy after that can be pretty varied.
But that doesn’t put me off of favoring the Giants. Woodford has only one decent start out of his four starts this season, and I think a little uptick in confidence at the plate and on the mound will continue and see San Francisco keep the winning run going.
Cardinals vs Giants Best Bet: Giants ML
