The weekend was not overly enjoyable for both the Milwaukee Brewers and San Francisco Giants, who suffered rare road series losses. The Brewers surprisingly lost two of three to the Minnesota Twins, who are last in the AL Central. The Giants was no less pleasant but was less of a stunner, as they lost two of three to the Atlanta Braves in a matchup of division leaders. But a little stumble does not derail either team’s status in the latest MLB betting odds, which have both teams at +360 to win the NL pennant entering their head-to-head matchup.
The Brewers have MLB’s best road record, thanks in large part to their pitching. In tonight’s series opener, one of their horses takes the hill in NL Cy Young hopeful Corbin Burnes. Burnes hasn’t lost in over three months and is the second favorite for the NL Cy Young behind Walker Buehler of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
It’s unstoppable force meets immovable object, however, as the Giants are the league’s best home team. The Giants are 42-19 at Oracle Park and have lost three series at home all season.
Which team’s prowess will shine through in this series? The Brewers are favored tonight with Burnes on the hill, but a rather impressive trend could play out in favor of the home team.

Will Weekend Frustrations Lead to Early Runs?
The Brewers stopped a string of three straight losses with a 6-2 win in yesterday’s series finale against the Twins. After managing only five runs in three losses, two to the Twins and one to the Cincinnati Reds, the Brewers did all of their damage early on Sunday, scoring their six runs in the first four innings.
It was a welcome return to form for the Brewers, who are one of the league’s top offensive teams on the road. Milwaukee averages 4.95 runs per game on the road, whereas they average only 4.29 runs per game at home.
While the Brewers had a successful Sunday, the Giants did not. In the rubber game of their series in Atlanta, the Giants were on the wrong end of a 9-0 shutout. There is no shame in being shut down by one of the hottest teams in the league, it must be said. And fortunately for the Giants, the rival Los Angeles Dodgers went down at home to the Colorado Rockies, keeping the Giants’ lead in the NL West at 2.5 games.
The numbers favor a strong response tonight by the Giants, but it will have to come against one of the best in the business. Burnes did not have his best outing last time out against the Reds, as he allowed four runs, seven hits, and three walks in six innings. But thanks to some big late noise by the bats, he remained unbeaten since May 25.
For what it’s worth, following the four starts in which he has allowed four or more earned runs, Burnes has a 1.50 ERA. That includes a start against the Giants on August 6, in which he allowed only one run and four hits in seven innings in a 2-1, 10-inning win for the Brewers.
MLB Betting Trends to Consider for Milwaukee Brewers vs San Francisco Giants
- The Giants are 32-13 following a loss this season.
- The Giants are 13-4 after a loss in which they were held to one run or no runs.
- That includes a 5-0 record in games after they were blanked.
- There have been four or more runs in the first five innings 15 times in Cueto’s 20 starts this season.
Milwaukee Brewers vs San Francisco Giants Best Bet
First Five Innings OVER 3.5 Runs
The Brewers and Giants have two of the best bullpens in the league, which takes away some of the value from the over for the entire game. But this is an excellent option, even with Burnes on the hill for the Brewers, due to the last trend mentioned above. With the Giants having a poor offensive day yesterday and the Brewers not having their best showing at Minnesota prior to yesterday’s win, the bats on both sides should be motivated to produce early.
